JAM in deep water

JAM is happening on Saturday May 8th and Sunday May 9th. Tony and Caroline Garrett are collecting the following items to be used in the craft sections of this event:

Please start saving these if you can and bring them into church.

Where on earth is everybody?

If you are a visitor to St John's today, we apologise for not being there to welcome you. A large number of church members are at a residential house party in the Wye Valley from Friday to Sunday. Martin and Cesca Cavender from ReSource who are already friends of St John's, will be leading the weekend.

Confirmation

There is always a confirmation service in Swindon on Easter Eve, and this year is no exception. Those who would like to be confirmed this year, on the evening of Saturday, April 3, are asked to have a word with Raymond, and we will do some preparation before that date.

Any questions?

Why don't we see miracles today like they did in the bible? What happens to people when they die if they've never heard about Jesus? Why aren't there any dinosaurs in the bible?...

We all have loads of questions about God, the bible, and how we are meant to live as Christians but, although we want the answer, we don't want to be the one to ask!

Now's your chance, and no one will know it was you!

On Sunday 14th March at 6:30pm in church SAS are having an "Any questions" session and we want to invite everyone to join us (you don't have to be young!). The idea is that there will be a box to put questions in and then a panel will try to answer them.

ROCK

We have nearly completed this project. Flooring is laid, kitchen is fitted and just one or two other items to finish off before the ROCK-et Launch (please see further note for information). On Sunday the 7th March it is anticipated that coffee will be served; the Scramblers will be relocated into the room next to the kitchen; the Creche will return to its former position and Sunday schools will be able to return to their normal classrooms.

ROCK-et launch!

On Sunday 25th April 2010 there will be just one service that day at 10:30am in order to include everyone in the celebration of the completion of the ROCK Project.

Lunch will be served after the service when the dedication of the kitchen and adjoining room will take place. Please make a note in your diary for this event. If you have any questions please contact Pauline Davis.

Cycle racks

Cycle racks will also be in place by the 7th March for all the cyclists amongst us (the racks are at the back of the church by the external boiler door). Any queries on the above please do not hesitate to contact Pauline or Andrew Carpenter.

Jars of grace

It’s a record! The 2009 Jar of Grace total is a record! We have received £2,701 from 91 Jars/gifts beating the 2008 record total of £2,591 (88 Jars/gifts). Jars of Grace can be brought back at any time, but any further Jars/gifts will count towards the 2010 Jar of Grace appeal.

Renewal of giving

Thank you so much if you have already returned your completed Promise Card for the St. John's Renewal of Giving 2010. Have you forgotten to return yours? If so, please let Andrew have it without delay so that we have as much information as possible to plan the St. John's finances for 2010.

Women's world day of prayer

The women's world day of prayer is taking place at 2:00pm on Friday the 5th March 2010 at Emmanuel Church, Haydon Wick.  The speaker is Mrs G. Hempstock. The service is prepared by the Christian women of Cameroon and it is an opportunity for us to join in this twenty four hour time of prayer with others around the world. (All welcome - men, women and young people).

The Leadership Ministry Team

I am delighted to say that all members of the leadership ministry team are now in place. I would have liked to announce the names to you this morning, but, as this is a big step forward for us as a church, and as the congregation is in two separate places, it did not seem the right thing to do. Those names will be made known next Sunday.

Swindon Food Bank Ball

The Food Bank ball will be on Friday 5th March. See Russell Riggs for tickets, or visit the Foodbank web site.

The church electoral roll

The church electoral roll is being revised between the dates of Sunday 21st February and Sunday 28th March. If you are a regular worshipper at St John's then you should be included on the roll. Please see Sharon Mortimer for an application form and further information. If you have changed your address or phone number in the last year please let Sharon know so that she can keep the electoral roll up to date.

Parish Office

The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. Please provide all items for the bulletin in writing first thing on Wednesday please!

Do you buy on line?

If so, please consider buying through http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church receives commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.

Tape Ministry

If you or someone you know would like a recording of the service, please contact Nigel Crowhurst, our Tape Co-ordinator.
