It is always a joyful occasion when a child is baptised into the family of God at St John’s. We are keen to ensure parents understand the promises they are making on behalf of their child: promises to bring their child up within the community of faith and including the statement ‘I submit to Christ as Lord’. It is important that parents and godparents can make these promises on their own behalf, as well as for their child.
For those who feel unable to go that far but want to thank God for the birth of their child, we offer a service of Thanksgiving for the Gift of a child.
We always welcome requests for such services. It allows parents to come to church, to give thanks to God for their child and see their child prayed for and blessed. And we would never ask you to make promises that you don’t feel that you would be able to keep.
