JAM in deep water
JAM is happening on Saturday May 8th and Sunday May 9th. Tony and Caroline Garrett are collecting the following items to be used in the craft sections of this event:
- Netting of the kind that supermarkets usually pack fruit and veg in, such as onions, oranges etc;
- Cardboard cereal packaging;
- Small plastic tops from water or lemonade bottles;
- Cardboard tubes from toilet rolls, kitchen rolls or wrapping paper.
Please start saving these if you can and bring them into church.
ROCK
We're nearly there - but not quite! Coffee hopefully will be served again at the beginning of March and a date for the official opening of the two new rooms will be announced shortly.
If you are a key holder would you please see Pauline Davis today who will issue you with replacement keys where appropriate. If you are not a key holder but believe you should be in possession of one, would you kindly let Pauline know in writing and what purpose you require a key.
The car park is still very muddy, therefore please continue not to park beyond the church building to give that area an opportunity to recover from the building work. Once again thank you for your patience. Any queries on this please contact Andrew Carpenter or Pauline Davis.
Mini ROCK
In addition to the main ROCK project, we are also doing a smaller project upstairs. Those of you who have been in the Upper Room during the summertime will know just how hot it can get in there. This is because, up to now, we have not been able to open a window! We have added two large new windows in the roof, which you can easily see from outside the church. This will make a lot of difference.
The room has the great advantages of being very dark and quite soundproof so we can use it to show DVDs. We have made sure that there are blinds covering the two windows, so that we keep the dark "cinema-like" feel which children love, and indeed adults appreciate on the Alpha course.
What happened to the sermons online?
Tony Mann is looking after this. Unfortunately, although the PCC has agreed to spend the money, the equipment Tony is trying to get hold of is not available at the present time. A new version of the same model is due to become available very soon, so we are waiting. We will get that up and running as soon as we can.
Children's work next Sunday
Over the weekend of February 26-28 many church members will be at the houseparty in Lindors. We are going to take this opportunity to prepare for Jam in Deep Water. Libby Gash is putting her artistic talents to use again. So there will be plenty for children to do next weekend.
Renewal of giving
Thank you so much if you have already returned your completed Promise Card for the St. John's Renewal of Giving 2010. We would like to have all the Promise Cards returned by Sunday, 28th February so that we have as much information as possible to plan the St. John's finances for 2010.
Uganda
A number of church members have expressed an interest in the possibility of a trip to Uganda in a couple of years time. Frances David has already come up with an offer. She would be able to put us in touch with a minibus and a driver for the duration of our stay there. That would take all the difficulties of transport away, apart, of course, from the fact of being violently thrown around the inside of that minibus whilst passing over the potholes in the roads. PCC will be discussing the possibility of such a trip tomorrow evening.
What happened to the Leadership Ministry Team?
Because of personal circumstances involving one of the members of that team, we just need to wait a bit longer until the names of all the members can be made known.
Swindon Food Bank Ball
The Food Bank ball will be on Friday 5th March. See Russell Riggs for tickets, or visit the Foodbank web site.
A big thank you to our own Anne Wood for arranging a collection at Nationwide which produced a fantastic double trolley load of food! Could your place of work offer something similar? Please see Russell for help with ideas and setting up a food collection.
The church electoral roll
The church electoral roll is being revised between the dates of Sunday 21st February and Sunday 28th March. If you are a regular worshipper at St John's then you should be included on the roll. Please see Sharon Mortimer for an application form and further information. If you have changed your address or phone number in the last year please let Sharon know so that she can keep the electoral roll up to date.
Parish Office
The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. Please provide all items for the bulletin in writing first thing on Wednesday please!
