JAM
J.A.M. stands for Jesus And Me. Over the years we have done:
- J.A.M. In the Jungle
- J.A.M. Back in the Jungle
- J.A.M. In the Desert
- J.A.M. in the Ark
- J.A.M. in the Caribbean
- J.A.M. In Space
- J.A.M. In Deep Water is the theme for this year's JAM.
We had a wonderful day yesterday, and we would like to thank everybody for their participation and help, but especially Andrew Carpenter, the incredibly hard-working members of JAM Spread, not forgetting Janet Gash, Mary Southgate, Peter Woolhead, and Allan Brown, Andrew Dean and the registration team, all the chair movers, and, last but not least, the catering team.
The Underwater Story so Far: Captain Sam and her crew, Sally the holder of many medals, Steve the experienced navigator, and Sue, fresh out of submarine college, have got to go and rescue a stricken submarine. Steve has already got on the wrong side of the captain. After Sue polished the captain's new sea boots until she could see her face in them, Steve dumped his breakfast in them because he was too lazy to walk to the bin. Unfortunately, Sally is too confident in her many medals. And Steve thinks he knows everything. So they don't listen to instructions, and aren't very good at the obeying orders. We shall see today what happens as a result of that...
The Bible Story so Far: Gideon is living in a very bad time. Midianite raiders keep on destroying Israel's crops and killing their people. He is praying for a deliverer, and God tells him his prayers are answered. God is going to send a deliverer. But it is Gideon.
Gideon is not very happy about that. He is convinced God has made the wrong choice. His clan is the smallest in the tribe. His family is the smallest in the clan. He is the smallest in his family. It's not a very promising start. It looks like it's going to be a disaster. And it would be - except that God has other ideas.
The Rock Cafe
Friday, 28th May will see the launch of The Rock Cafe. The Rock Cafe
will initially be open from 10:00am to 4:00pm on the last Friday of each
month. Entrance will be by the Lounge door.
Come and enjoy some refreshments - sandwiches - cakes - scones - toasted tea-cakes (at a reasonable price) and bring along your family and friends. Enjoy time to sit and chat and experience this new cafe.
Following a meeting of the steering committee of The Rock Cafe it has been agreed, if we can get enough volunteers, to open The Rock Cafe on all other Fridays but only between 10:00am and 12:00 noon and on those days we will only serve hot/cold drinks and biscuits.
To enable us to do this we will be needing volunteers to help. There are forms for the morning Friday Cafe (and for the all day Friday Cafe) on the table in the foyer. Please complete and return to Pauline Davis.
Please do give this your prayerful consideration and join the happy group of volunteers to help run The Rock Cafe for outreach. If you have any questions please speak to Pauline Davis, Dee Howard, or Anna Richardson.
Coffee Rota Under Strain
The bad news is that the coffee Rota is in danger of collapse. We need more volunteers if we want to still enjoy coffee after the services. So we are going to reorganise the rota starting on June 6th, so no one makes coffee more than 3 times a year.
Hospitality is really important in this church. It gives us a chance to develop relationships with one another, and to welcome new people. If we are unable to find enough people to serve coffee, there will be some blank weeks and that is not good. Our hope is that some more of you would be willing to offer your help for this very important part of our morning service.
Children's Leaders
We have a couple of changes coming up. David Tunley is going to be working with Cathy Brown in Explorers from May. Natalie King is returning to Scramblers to allow David to make that move. I want to say a really big thank you to Cathy for so generously volunteering to cover all the gaps in April until everything is sorted out, whilst learning the part of Sue [see above] for Jam in Deep Water. Her help has been invaluable.
Lesley Hawkes who was Children's Ministry Administrator is now our churchwarden. I am delighted to say that Lizzie Tunley has stepped into that role, and we look forward to working with her in the future. Lesley's other role of producing SongPro is now being done by Janice in the Parish Office.
Pastoral Care Team
The new Pastoral Care Team are gradually finding their feet. If you know of anyone who would like a visit, either because they are ill, or just because they'd like a friendly chat over a cuppa, please let Sharon Mortimer know. She will make sure that someone gets in touch.
Parish Office
The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. Please provide all items for the bulletin in writing first thing on Wednesday please!
