Give praise and thanks for the for the Lord's continued interest in the Food Bank project and his wisdom in setting the way forward with new premises. Glory to God for the success of the Food Bank Ball and the positive way in which the resources and publicity will touch the lives of the needy who come to the distribution centre.
JAM preparation meeting
A big thank you to all who have agreed to help with J.A.M in Deep Water. We will be holding our preparation meeting on Tuesday 27 April at 7:30pm in church. This is an essential meeting for all involved and we hope you will be able to attend. If you are unable to come please let Andrew Carpenter know.
ROCK-et launch!
Next Sunday 10:30am! Today is your last opportunity of putting down your name for the lunch – next week – please don't forget.
We really would like for you to join with us on the celebration of the completion of the Lounge and the Kitchen. There will be a combined joint service, when Alan Hawker will preach, for both the 9:00am and the 11:00am congregations at 10:30am followed by lunch at 12:00 noon which will be in the form of a buffet.
If you require a lift please make sure you indicate this on the same list. Any queries please do not hesitate to contact Pauline Davis or Jeanne Carpenter.
Annual Parochial Church Meeting
Monday 19th April 2010 at 7:30pm. The APCM gives us the opportunity to review the past and consider the future. New PCC members will be elected, and a new churchwarden appointed as Pauline comes to the end of the period of office. More will be said about that on the day. Rod Mortimer will continue to serve as churchwarden. Anyone may propose and second a number of the congregation to serve in the PCC. You do that by writing their name in the form on the notice board. They need to be on the electoral roll, and you need to have asked their permission Leadership.
We will also be commissioning our Ministry Leadership Team at the APCM, as well as our new Pastoral Care Team. A special edition of the bulletin will be produced the day before the APCM to introduce these teams and explain their role in St John's. We want everyone to know as much about them as possible.
Thanks to our PCC Members: We want to say a big "Thank you" to Chris Hawkes, Lesley Hawkes, Andrew Carpenter, Chris Alcock and Becki Jones whose term of office on PCC came to an end at a meeting on Monday. We thank them for all the work they've done . Andrew has chaired our meetings for the last three years, which has made life much easier for Raymond.
Pastoral Care Team
The new Pastoral Care Team are gradually finding their feet. If you know of anyone who would like a visit, either because they are ill, or just because they'd like a friendly chat over a cuppa, please let Sharon Mortimer know.
St John's Annual Report and Accounts 2009
The Report and Accounts for 2009 are now available to view on the church notice board. If you would like to have a copy to read through before the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (which is to be held on Monday 19th April 2010) please have a word with our Treasurer, Andrew.
Thanks from Bishop Mike
In common with a number of different charities, the finances of the diocese of Bristol are not as healthy as they might be. However, not only St. John's, but every other Swindon church, paid its parish share in full once again, and Bishop Mike wrote to our PCC members this week expressing his thanks.
Increased administrator's hours
We are intending to increase Janice's hours from eight to twelve a week from Tuesday April 20. Our intention has always been that the parish office would become the administrative centre for St John's, and that is increasingly the case.
All our internal administration is now being dealt with centrally, and Janice is increasingly becoming the point of contact for those outside the church.
So, we look forward to the office being staffed three mornings a week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
Please bear in mind that Janice is a resource for the whole church. She is the Parish Administrator, so if you have administrative work to do on behalf of the church, please, have a word with Raymond, so that we can fit that into our administrator's pattern of work.
Parish Office
The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. Please provide all items for the bulletin in writing first thing on Wednesday please!
Do you buy on line?
If so, please consider buying through http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church receives commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.
There are over 100 retailers involved (including M&S, Amazon, John Lewis, Comet) some of which offer exclusive discounts and promotions - and best of all ... there is no extra cost to the purchaser!
Tape Ministry
If you or someone you know would like a recording of the service, please contact Nigel Crowhurst, our Tape Co-ordinator. We have also started to podcast some of our sermons.
