Swindon Food Bank

Swindon Food Bank need your old carrier bags. Please bring in any spares and put them in the bag next to the food collection box under the table in the hall.

Chair moving day

This coming week we intend to paint the inside of the worship area. While the building work is going on and we have a good team with us, we are planning to give the church a thorough spring clean. This is one of those situations when many hands make light work. It is amazing how quickly the church can be emptied of all its furniture when lots of people help, and how long that job can take when it is left to a few people. We know from experience that St John's members are very good pulling together in situations like this, so we look forward to your assistance after the service. Confirmation.

Chair putting back day

Even more importantly, we will need a lot of people to help us put the chairs back again on Saturday morning at 10:00am ready for next Sunday's service. And this time -- we haven't got a captive audience. Pauline has worked enormously hard over the last couple of weeks and her car has almost taken up a permanent position in the car park. However, this is something she cannot do herself. We will need your help.

The Christian Holiday Handbook

The Christian Holiday Handbook is available in the foyer. Lindors is among those places listed in Britain and Europe. Please feel free to take a copy.

The official opening of the kitchen

Alan Hawker is the Archdeacon of Malmesbury. He and Jen have been friends of St John's since their first arrival in the diocese. Alan agreed to lead our houseparty at Hebron Hall at his induction service! And so it is a real joy that he is coming to open the kitchen officially at our service on April 25.

Have you got the united service and meal in your diary?

Please note that there is only one service on that day, and it will be 10:30am. Our nine o'clock and 11 o'clock services are coming together, so that we can share a meal together after the service. So, please make a morning of it. Enjoy the worship -- be present at the opening of the wonderful new kitchen -- and have a meal with the rest of the congregation afterwards. It should be a very memorable day.

Are we a welcoming church?

I am delighted to say that, after talking to those who have recently arrived, people seem to find it so. If you are new today, I hope that you will also find that to be the case.. We have an official Welcome Team, and are expanding that. However, it is so important that all members of the congregation give new people a warm welcome, smile and say "hello". Not everyone finds it easy to approach new people, but people appreciate the effort enormously. To come to a church and not be spoken to can be a very lonely experience. Fortunately, it is one which very rarely happens here.

Give a warm welcome in April

We have vacancies for a Sidesperson at every 11am service in April. All you have to do is smile, hand over a bulletin and answer any questions people may have. We have a sheet in the foyer, so if you can act as Sidesperson for any of those Sundays, do please sign up.

Pray for Swindon schools

Thursday 29th April from 7:30pm - 9:30pm at Greendown School. Once again Swindon Youth For Christ are joining with Christian Schools workers from a number of churches across the area to put on a Pray for Schools event.

Pray for Schools is a national initiative, encouraging Christians to hold events that will increase prayer for schools in their area. This will be a
significant time of sharing and praying together for schools and supporting Christian students and staff within them. We want this event to
encourage and inspire Christians to pray strategically for their local schools.

Shoe Box Appeal

If St. John's Church is going to respond to the Shoe Box Appeal this year, we need someone who will be willing to take on the r responsibility of organising it. Action is needed now as we have to order the literature, and the forms that go in the boxes, in the near future. If you would be interested in taking on this role, or would like to find out more about what is involved, please speak to Jean Dean.

Vacancies at Churchfield Home Group

Are you looking to join a home group? If so look no further. Our numbers have dropped due to people moving away and we would love to have a few new members. We are a friendly bunch and we meet on Wednesdays at 7:30pm. If you are interested please contact Bill Hunt or Dee and John Howard. We look forward to hearing from you.

The church electoral roll

The church electoral roll is being revised between the dates of Sunday 21st February and Sunday 28th March. If you are a regular worshipper at St John's then you should be included on the roll. Please see Sharon Mortimer for an application form and further information. If you have changed your address or phone number in the last year please let Sharon know so that she can keep the electoral roll up to date.

JAM preparation meeting

A big thank you to all who have agreed to help with J.A.M in Deep Water. We will be holding our preparation meeting on Tuesday 27 April at 7:30pm in church. This is an essential meeting for all involved and we hope you will be able to attend. If you are unable to come please let Andrew Carpenter know.

Parish Office

The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. Please provide all items for the bulletin in writing first thing on Wednesday please!
