Prayer topics this week

For Raymond and Chris who are in Luweero this week. For those impacted by the bush fires in Australia. For the volunteers of Swindon Food Bank and the people they help.

Gaza Humanitarian Crisis Appeal

Following the fragile ceasefire in the hostilities between Israel and Hamas, the full extent of the devastation and humanitarian crisis in Gaza has become all too apparent. The Disasters Emergency Committee (which includes all the main humanitarian charities) is appealing urgently for donations so that they can get relief to those who so desperately need it. So that St. John's members have the opportunity of giving to this appeal we will again have a plate at the door for retiring offerings after both services this Sunday. Cheques should be made payable to St. John's PCC.

Women's World Day of Prayer

Women's World Day of Prayer is to be held at All Saints Church at 2:00pm on Friday 6th March. The service is prepared by Christian Women of Papua New Guinea and the theme is "In Christ there are many members yet one body". This is an opportunity for us all to be part of this day of prayer using the same service that is being used throughout the world. Men, women and young people are all welcome. (All Saints Church is in Southbrook Street off Ferndale Road).

Job vacancy

A vacancy has arisen for a part-time Parish Secretary in the Parish Office of Swindon New Town for 8 hours per week, working two mornings weekly, plus attendance for minute-taking at monthly Church Council meetings. Working knowledge of MS Office essential. For further details please telephone Margaret Pearce on 01793 490353.

Record-breakers!

We've done it! We've topped our target of £2,500 for the 2008 Jar of Grace appeal. We have now received 86 Jars and gifts totalling a record £2,558. Every penny given will be donated to the UNICEF Education Project and Luweero. So thank you to all concerned. Some people have already started their 2009 Jars! And it is not too late to bring back any from last year which are still lurking on mantelpieces, tables, or in corners!

J.A.M. in Space 2009

This will take place on Saturday 9th May in St John's Church and we anticipate between 100 and 140 children will attend this annual event. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to spend time with some of the children of Haydon Wick. However, we will need a lot of help to run the day and would ask you to consider if this is something you could do. We will need group leaders and assistants, registration assistants, refreshment organisers, first aid assistants, stage creators, multimedia operator, video camera operator, sound system operator and people to move furniture etc in the church.

If you can help, then please sign up on the list in the entrance hall. If you need more information about what is involved please contact us. Please note, if you have already indicated that you are willing to help then there is no need to sign up on the form.

Electoral Eoll

The Church Electoral Roll is being revised between Sunday 22nd February and Sunday 12th April. If you are worshipping regularly at St. John's and would like your name included on the roll please ask Sharon Mortimer for an application form.

Living Stones 2

This is taking place on Saturday 7th March at St. John's from 9:30am until lunch. The theme is "Enabling Growth to Continue". Keynote address by The Ven. Alan Hawker. Please put this date in your diary.

Entertainment evening

Our resident MC Andy Hall is looking for singers, dancers, jugglers and entertainers of any kind for the Entertainment Evening on Saturday 7th March at 6:30pm. Sign up sheets are in the church foyer for attending, offers of help with the catering and contributions to the entertainment.

Updates from Uganda

As mentioned in previous bulletins, the first update from Raymond and Chris has made it onto the Diocesan website. Look for further postings from Lurch! Copies of the briefings will also be on our notice-board.

IMPACT

IMPACT is a Christian worship event bringing together young people from across Swindon. It is an opportunity to creatively explore and discuss life, faith and God with other young people in a chilled out space. A group from our church will be going to IMPACT on the evening of Saturday 28th February.

Swindon Food Bank Quiz Night

Swindon Food Bank is holding a Quiz Night on Friday 20th February at the Gateway Church, Westlea (formerly known as Swindon Family Church) at 7:30pm. The cost is £2.50 a head. All proceeds to Swindon Food Bank. Please contact Russell Riggs on 700764 for further details.

Puddings please!

Swindon Food Bank are receiving double the number of requests than this time last year due to the current economic crisis. They are desperately short of tinned puddings (rice, sponge etc). If you feel able to donate a pudding it would be much appreciated. The Food Bank box is under the table in the foyer.
