A Bumper Harvest
In addition to the harvest gifts brought by our congregation last week, we were delighted to receive a large amount of food from Pram Club members. Thanks to the excellent food agencies in Swindon, every part of it will find its way to someone in need.
We are also delighted to report that very fruitful partnerships have developed between Greenmeadow School and Haydon Wick School, both of whom have this harvest time, committed themselves financially to support two projects in Uganda. Haydon Wick will be donating their money to The Blind School, and Greenmeadow will be sending a gift to the school we have built at Bwasiba. This has all come about at a particularly important time, because Peter, the head teacher at the Blind School has recently written to request more financial help.
One of the diocesan aims for this decade is Growth in Partnership, so that we work together with other people where we share the same aims and objectives. Developing projects like this is exactly the kind of thing which the Bishop had in mind.
Please check your rota
There is never a good time to mention the importance of keeping an eye on the Rota, because it always looks like I am getting at the people who forgot last week! However, if I waited for a week when no one forgot, I might expect to wait quite a long time. Missing your turn on your Rota is easy to do, but it can make life difficult for other people. So, can we please remind all church members to keep an eye on your diary.
Houseparty piggybank
If you did not pick up your brochure "Come to the River" last week, please pick up one today. It will be a very stimulating, but also we hope, relaxing weekend. The price of Lindors is very competitive in view of the quality of what is on offer. However, we are conscious that it is still a substantial sum to find. There are eighteen weeks left, so there is plenty of time to save up. Obviously, you can do this by yourself. However, Andrew is always happy to receive money in advance, from those who would like to go, in whatever amounts you would like to pay. Paying a little bit at a time is a good way to take some of the sting out of finding the whole lot at one go.
Confirmation
Do please pray for those preparing for confirmation. If you would like to support the candidates, confirmation will take place on Sunday 14th November 4:00pm in St Michael, Highworth. They would love to see you there.
Jars of Grace
If you haven't yet started your Jar of Grace, now is the time! Your thank offerings at meal times, between now and Christmas, will be shared between Luweero and UNICEF's life saving work for the world's children. Last year we received 88 Jars and set a new record of £2,591! Can we better that this year? You can either pick up a Jar in church or use one of your own (but do please clean it first - marmalade makes the money sticky and difficult to count!). For more information, please speak to our Treasurer, Andrew.
Advance notice
Tuesday 10th November at 7:45pm - Home groups will be meeting for prayer in church, but everyone is invited to come to that event.
Shoebox Sunday
There are still lots of shoeboxes available in church for you to fill for children who would otherwise receive nothing this Christmas. Last year, St. John's sent 176 shoeboxes - a great total but it would be good to reach 200 this year. Shoebox Sunday will be 15th November so they all have to be back by that Sunday at the latest. As last year, we are planning to finish the 11am service on Shoebox Sunday by forming a human chain to start the boxes on their long journey. Put it in your diary now to avoid being the 'weakest (or missing) link'! More information is available from Jean Dean.
Parish Office
The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. Please provide all items for the bulletin in writing first thing on Wednesday please!
