Operation Christmas Child
We will be showing you a DVD this morning, reminding you how to make Christmas a joy for a child who would otherwise receive nothing on Christmas morning.
Ministry Leadership Team
If you are a member of the Electoral Roll you will have received a letter from the church explaining what it is that we are doing, and asking for your response. (I'm sorry to say that on this occasion we can only involve you if you are a member of the Electoral Roll.) In order to make sure that this is a venture in which we are listening to God and keeping the will of the Holy Spirit at the forefront, we will be holding an hour of prayer and worship this evening at 6:00pm to bring this issue to God.
Auf Wiedersehen!
Please come to the church room after the service to thank Dave Day for all he has done for us and meant to us in the last 13 years at St John's. We want to send David and Liz with God's blessing to their new work in Wichelstowe.
UNICEF
Half the proceeds of a Jar of Grace will go to Luweero, and the other half to UNICEF. UNICEF are concentrating this year on the country of Mozambique. Nearly half the people of Mozambique are under 18 years of age. Every day in Mozambique about 395 children under the age of five die as a result of easily preventable and treatable diseases, such as malaria and diarrhoea. There are many cost-effective measures such as rehydration salts that could save many children's lives. However for poor families they are simply unaffordable.
Here are some figures to think about.
- £19 will provide 100 doses of vaccine to protect 50 children from measles.
- £41 can provide mosquito nets to protect 10 mothers and their young children.
- £100 can help 10 families collect and store clean and safe water with the family water pack.
- £345 will supply a water pump for a whole community.
- £1550 will supply a motorcycle that will help field workers in remote communities to take life-saving vaccines to children.
