New sermon series

From this morning until Advent we will be looking at Paul's second letter to the Corinthians. You can find more details about this particular series on the accompanying sheet. It is safe to say that of all the churches founded by Paul, the Corinthian church proved to be the most demanding. The many problems in Corinth caused Paul to write four letters to them. Two of the letters are the books we know as 1 and 2 Corinthians; the other two have not survived.

Paul, the human being, comes through very strongly in this letter. He is a man of enormous intellect, but is also deeply passionate. In this letter he reveals a range of powerful emotions. On the one hand confidence and pride in the Corinthians is evident; on the other hand, he is deeply hurt that they are withholding their affections from him, and have been ready to believe a whole range of unfounded criticisms against him.

Throughout the letter Paul is forced to defend his doctrines, his ministry and his character, aware that his converts have fallen under the spell of outsiders; people, who, unlike him, do not have their interests at heart.

Email register

Our administrator has access to a surprisingly small number of church members' e-mail addresses. On the table today you will find a list of those which we have. If we don't have yours, we would strongly encourage you to insert your e-mail into the blank space opposite your name. It is worth checking if you are listed, that the email address we have for you is correct. A complete list of e-mail addresses would make communicating with church members so much easier.
