Prayer topics this week

For the PCC as they meet tomorrow evening. For St. John's PCC and the PCC of St. John's in Wroughton as they consider working together on the Growing Leaders Course.

It could be you

It is easy to miss the fact this is your turn to read, lead the prayers, welcome people at the door etc. People do it all the time! In order to try to encourage people to look in their diary, or calendar, or wherever we all keep the information, we shall be running an "It Could Be You" reminder message for the next few weeks.

Rachel Cooke

Rachel will be attending a selection conference for the ordained ministry for the first half of this week. Rachel, Matthew and the children live in our parish, but she has been a full-time youth worker at St Michael in Highworth, for the last three years. That work has now come to an end, and she is looking for the next step that God wants her to take in her life. Please pray for her this week. We want God's will to be made known to Rachel, Matthew, and the selectors.

Home Groups

Three of our home groups have paid up for their books but three have not. If you are one of those people who has failed to contribute, please drop your money in the red box labelled home group book money.

Chuck and Kath Morris

It is a year since Joe Morris was made priest in Bristol Cathedral. We continue to remember him. Kath, Joe's mother, is now in the United States with her daughter. Chuck has been receiving treatment for a build-up of pressure behind his eyes, but apart from that is feeling a lot better, and is now back at work again. They have returned to their home in East Anglia, but promise to come and visit us from time to time.

Pollie Roe

Pollie was taken into hospital about two weeks ago, and is, at the time of writing, on Saturn ward. Sadly, both her sight and hearing are failing, but she remains in good spirits, and the doctor is confident that she will be able to return home again, though with additional care provided. If you would like to send her a card, she would love to receive it.

Congratulations to...

...Dr Matthew Mortimer and Dr Eleanor Fletcher, both of whom have qualified. We were delighted to be able to celebrate these two marvellous achievements last week. Jodie Priddle also qualified as a teacher and will be working in Lawn from September. Well done to all three!

Emmanuel URC

Since the Rev Andrew Frances retired last year, Emmanuel has been without a minister. They have been helped a great deal by a minister from Lechlade but she has just been accepted as an army chaplain. This is her last Sunday. Rodbourne Baptist Church has been in the same position, but for rather longer. Please pray for both these churches in a difficult time and especially for the lay leaders.

Puddings galore!

Patti Tomlinson is organising another Puddings Galore! This will be at Patti's house, where she will serve 10 desserts as well as fresh fruit and cheese, from which each ticket holder can choose 5, as well as dessert wine and coffee. Tickets for the event, which is on July 25th from 7:30pm onwards, cost £5.50, and £5 per ticket will be donated to the St. John's Development Fund. For tickets, see Patti after the 9:00am service.

Quiz Evening - Saturday 12th September

We are planning a Quiz Evening for later this year, so mark this date on your calendar. This will be something anyone and everyone can take part in and suitable for all ages. We will accommodate those in teams and those who want to make up a team; the first-timers and the old hands; the brainy and the barmy! More details after the summer.

Thank you

We would like to thank EVERYONE for all their love, prayers and practical help following Lizzie's elbow injury in April. We would have found it so much harder without you! THANK YOU! David, Lizzie, Bethany and Isaac.

Can you count? If so, we need YOU!

We are grateful to the St. John's members who count the offerings each Sunday after the 11:00am service is over. They work in pairs on a rota basis (once in every six weeks). However, we will be losing two and possibly three of our counters from September and would like to hear from others who would be willing to join the rota. If you are good at counting money and are willing to be involved, or would like to have more information about what the job entails, please speak to our Treasurer, Andrew or to one of the Churchwardens as soon as possible.

Filling Station

The next Filling Station collection is on Thursday 23rd July. The letters are ready to collect in the foyer.

Foodbank Update

Great News! Our recent Sainsburys collection brought in just short of 1.5 tonnes of food. We are giving out about 2 tonnes of food per month so extra donations are much appreciated as we feed so many people and spread the word to those who need to hear the message of hope. Welcome to Denise Rees who joined the team of helpers for the first time. All are welcome at the next collection at Tesco on Saturday 25th July.

Parish Office

The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. All items for the bulletin to Wendy in writing first thing on Wednesday please!

Do you buy on line?

We have received our first commission cheque amounting to more than £50! Log on via our website or go directly to http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church will receive commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.

There are over 100 retailers involved (including M&S, Amazon, John Lewis, Comet) some of which offer exclusive discounts and promotions - and best of all ... there is no extra cost to the purchaser!

Tape Ministry

If you or someone you know would like a recording of the service, please contact Nigel Crowhurst, our Tape Co-ordinator.
