Notes from the APCM
First of all, we congratulate Patti Tomlinson, Becki Jones and Carol Nichol who were all elected to the PCC on Monday evening. Mary Southgate has come off the PCC but Chris Alcock will be continuing for another year. Paul Nichol and Mark Sansome also came to the end of their term. Jean Dean was presented with a bouquet of flowers, for completing a total of 50 years almost continuous service on PCCs in different churches. She has decided it is time to close her PCC file and retire.
Raymond thanked our two Churchwardens, Pauline Davis and Rod Mortimer, for their hard work over the past year and they were re-elected as Churchwardens for the coming year. Please pray for Pauline and Rod as they continue to bear heavy responsibility in the exercise of their duties.
The full PCC for the coming year, including ex-officio and elected members, is Raymond Adams (Chair), Andrew Carpenter (Vice-Chair), Pauline Davis and Rod Mortimer (Churchwardens), Sharon Mortimer (PCC Secretary), Andrew Dean (PCC Treasurer), Chris Alcock, Peter Eastwood, Melanie Griffiths, Carol Hall, Chris Hawkes, Lesley Hawkes, Tim Hunt, Rebecca Jones, Karen Madni, Carol Nichol, Russell Riggs, Pattti Tomlinson.
Please pray for the members of PCC that God will guide and lead them in their deliberations and decisions. The first full meeting of the new PCC will be on Monday, 18th May, 2009.
Treasurer's report
Financially, we had another excellent year. Despite a projected £8000 deficit, we actually ended the year with a £3000 surplus.
The Electoral Roll
The electoral roll has increased from 175 to 190, which is the highest it has ever been. Raymond spoke, as he did last Sunday, of the structural changes needed in St. John's in order to make sure growth is allowed to continue.
ROCK Project
Our kitchen is clearly the Cinderella of our church building. Anyone who has worked in it will know that only too well! Andrew Carpenter presented the APCM with proposals made by the PCC for relocating and expanding the present kitchen. The kitchen and committee room area will be completely redeveloped to provide us with a much larger kitchen, and differently shaped "committee room". This may help us to find a better place to serve coffee after the service.
Report and Financial Statements for 2008
If you missed the APCM and would like to have a copy of the Report and Accounts (which were unanimously approved and adopted by the meeting) you can pick up a copy from the table in the Church foyer.
Preschool
Preschool will be leaving us at the end of July. Things have changed enormously in education, and OFSTED requirements make it very difficult for a preschool to meet in a church. A dedicated Child Centre is being built next to Greenmeadow School to house the preschool in September.
Raymond and Chris’ Adventures in Uganda
Following the successful film show evenings, several members of the congregation have asked if there can be an afternoon matinee! This will take place on Thursday 7th May at 2:00pm. Please add your name to the list in the foyer if you would like to come.
Swindon Food Bank
Food Bank made over £200 with their quiz last Friday evening. Brian and Jean Crookes added to this with £90 from a car boot sale the following day.
Congratulations
Congratulations to Bill for his marathon run completed in 4 1/2 hours. If you would like to support Bill, or Jill Crowhurst in her Moon Walk on Saturday 16th May in aid of breast cancer, both would be delighted. Sponsor forms are in the foyer.
Filling Station
Filling Station is a soup kitchen charity which has been running for approximately 15 years in the Town Centre. It currently takes place on a Tuesday and a Thursday evening from 7pm to 8pm. The aim is to meet with the hungry on the streets of Swindon. Currently they are in need of some more volunteers. If you're interested or have any questions then please email gareth@kainoscf.org.
Parish Office
The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. All items for the bulletin to Wendy in writing first thing on Wednesday please!
