What will happen?
Over the summer we will be looking at the Exile of the people of Israel to Babylon. There are lots of interesting characters in that period including Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and the Persian beauty queen Esther.
We will be starting off the series on 29 July with the question "What exactly was the Exile?" The children will, however, be doing something considerably more messy.
Martin Cavender and Living Stones
Martin sincerely apologises for the inconvenience to those of you who changed plans so you could be in Swindon on 30 September. We originally announced Martin as coming to speak to us on that Sunday. Sadly, as announced last week, he is unable to be with us then. He will be coming three weeks later, on 21 October. As the Bishop is coming the evening before to open the church extension, we hope that a large number of people will already have reserved this weekend.
Building project
With the building work complete, we are concentrating on planning the furnishing and equipping of the new extension. We have sufficient money in the building fund to pay the builders and architects with some left over to go towards the cost of furnishing and equipment but we still need a lot more!
Gifts can be passed to our treasurer, Andrew, and cheques should be made payable to St John's PCC.
Additionally, you can help by filling phials for furnishings! Just take one of the little phials from the basket in the church room and fill it with your small change. Already 64 have been returned containing a total of £479!
The extension will be dedicated by Bishop Mike, Bishop of Bristol, during a service to be held at 5pm on Saturday 20 October, 2007. After the service of dedication we will celebrate with a buffet meal and entertainment by some of the gifted members of St John's. Definitely an event not to be missed!
From Fox to phantom!
Felicity Fox says thank you once again to the phantom card supplier who left cards in church for the children's birthdays. This gift is very much appreciated.
