Willows

Please pray that Willows will have sufficient resources in 2012 to maintain the work in these challenging times. For resources for the staff team, who have been stretched due to staff illness in the last 9 months, to get back to full capacity. For the clients of Willows that they may get the support that they need. For the development of the young Woman's Counselling and awareness Project being considered jointly with Woman for Change. For more volunteer receptionists to help out in the office.

The Welcome Brochure

At the end of Everybody Welcome, MLT felt a good first step would be to produce a Welcome Pack which we could give to newcomers to the church. That seems a long time ago! The brochure has been through many hands since then, photographs have been added and content assessed and revised. We believe you will think the resulting brochure is well worth the wait. The brochure is being printed in-house, but our aim is that the printing will be of as high a quality as the text.

Can I have one? If we were to print a Welcome Pack for every member of the church, the cost in printing and Janice's time would be prohibitive. We will, however, make a number of brochures available in the foyer for regular members to read. The second Welcome Team Training Event will take place soon. So a warm welcome is top of our agenda for 2012.

Week of prayer for Christian Unity

The week of prayer for Christian Unity brings Christians across the country together. There will be a local service next Sunday evening (Sunday, January 22) at 6:30pm in Rodbourne Cheney Baptist Church. We really hope you will be able to come along and join with other Christians living around us here on that day.

Jars of Grace

Following Raymond's letter, and the Treasurer's Lament in last Sunday's bulletin, we have received 10 more Jars of Grace. The total so far is 51 Jars/gifts.  Last year's total was 78 Jars/gifts and we raised a record £3,064 for Luweero and UNICEF. Our target this year is £3,500! Thank you so much to all of you who have brought back your Jars of Grace or made donations. The total to date is £2,835 (which includes the Christingle, Carol Service and Midnight Communion collections of £517 and Gift Aid tax refunds to come of £257). So we are still £229 short of last year's total and £665 short of our target! So, if you still have a Jar of Grace at home, please bring it back to church as soon as possible. And if you didn't use a Jar of Grace, you can still make a donation to the Jar of Grace Appeal 2011. Cheques should be made payable to St. John's PCC.

Fit the Bible into your busy lifestyle

Discover the Bible through "You've Got the Time" from Bible Society. You will be enriched and inspired as you listen to the whole of the New Testament for just 28 minutes a day over 40 days.

Whether you're on a lunch break, at the gym, walking the dog or doing the shopping – with You've Got the Time, the Bible can fit into your busy day.

There are two major components:

What do I need? You will need an MP3 player if you're going to take the Bible out and about. If you haven't got one, we can get you one as part of the program. Alternatively, you can download the recording direct to your computer or you can get it on an audio DVD.

Those who make a regular daily practice of Bible reading often read in small chunks. You've Got the Time gives you the big picture. You experience the whole sweep of the New Testament. Lent is the ideal time. Especially as it takes 40 days of listening. This year Ash Wednesday is February 22, so we want everything in place by then. You will hear more about this in weeks to come, but if you would like to register your interest please sign the form in the foyer.

Learning people's names is essential if you're going to be part of a community. And, once other people know your name, you have a much stronger feeling of belonging. Lots of people find that learning names is hard work. So, we've come up with a way of helping you to get to know lots of other people, and learn their names in an enjoyable way. We've been running this event are many years, and it's always proved extremely popular. It's a great way to get to know people.
