And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is
the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” (Luke 2:8-12)

The verses above focus on the unexpectedness of God’s glory revealed to humble shepherds, emphasizing themes of God meeting us in ordinary life, good news for all people (especially the marginalized), overcoming fear with joy, and the personal nature of Jesus’ birth (He is for you), leading to humble worship and praise. This points to God’s grace reaching the lowly, the contrast with the proud religious elite, and the radical idea that God’s presence comes not with fanfare but to the “watchers” in the field.

God chose shepherds—outsiders, common labourers—to announce the Messiah, showing His favour for the humble, not the powerful. The angelic announcement shattered the shepherds’ normal night watch, illustrating how God breaks into our everyday routines with extraordinary purpose and joy. The message is intensely personal: “today a Savior… was born for you,” highlighting that Jesus’ coming is a personal gift of salvation, not just a historical event.

How is your walk with Jesus? Do you consider Him your Lord and Savior? if so, Will you make Him know to your friends and family this Christmas?

May the Lord be your guide and strength.

Every blessing,
Patches
