God’s Smuggler is a true story about an angry and rebellious young man named Andrew van der Bijl. Fighting as a Dutch soldier, he was injured in the East Indies. Back home in Holland, he discovered God’s hand in his life.

Andrew travelled to Poland in the 1950s where he saw how difficult it was to be a Christian in a Communist country. Communist governments behind the Iron Curtain were not allowing Bibles to be printed. Andrew decided to smuggle Bibles, hidden in his bright blue VW Beetle, into the former Soviet Union including Russia, Bulgaria, Rumania, and Czechoslovakia, risking a lengthy prison sentence.

Brother Andrew, as he became known, ultimately became the founder of the organisation we support as a church – Open Doors. He once said, “Every door is open to go in and proclaim Christ, as long as you are willing to go and are not worried about coming back.”
