UPDATE (20/10/2017):

We are delighted to say that we received a very welcome offer from Allan volunteering for this important role. We are currently conducting interviews according to the Safer Recruitment code of practice and hope to appoint Allan officially soon.

Because churches are open to everyone, we have to be welcoming and vigilant at the same time. St John’s PCC aims to ensure that safeguarding is carried out in our church family as well as it can be.

This post is one that urgently remains to be filled.

Parishes are required to appoint at least one person to work with the vicar and the PCC to implement policy and procedures. The PSO will:

  • Annually review, with the incumbent, the implementation of safeguarding policy and practice and report to the Annual Parochial Church Council Meeting.
  • Ensure that safeguarding concerns are appropriately reported.
  • Ensure that Safe Recruiting is followed.
  • Assist the parish in maintaining a secure record of DBS disclosures.

Full support and advice can be given by Rod (c/o the Parish office) at local level and Adam Bond at diocese level. The PSO will need to attend Diocesan Group 2 Safeguarding Training within a year of appointment.
