The Origin of The Rock Café

Since 2009 the word ROCK has stood as a shorthand in St. John's for

"The refurbishment Of the Church Kitchen"

We decided on the name The Rock Café, partly because of the link with that project, but also because the word "Rock" has been used in churches for a long time. Over two millennia before the Rock Café was thought of King David said in the psalms

"The Lord is my Rock and my Fortress."

Christians still celebrate the many rock-like qualities of God.

When we call the Lord, "My Rock" we are saying something about his power, his stability, his strength and his reliability.

What makes The Rock Café different?

Firstly, the prices (opens as a PDF document). You've probably spotted this already. Well we're not in it to make a profit.

Secondly, everyone who works here is a volunteer. Having an attractive building is great - but we want to share that with the community around us.

RockThirdly, everyone who works here is a church member and has discovered that God is a rock - even when times are at their most difficult.

We all believe that the church offers something special, something you won't find anywhere else. The bible calls it "hope".

We want people to experience a little bit of that hope when they visit The Rock Café.

A Café in a Church?

Any of our staff here will be happy to show you around the rest of the building. And if you would like to say a prayer in the church you are more than welcome.

If you discover more about our faith, we run regular Alpha Courses. And of course we worship in this building every Sunday.

So, please enjoy your time in The Rock Café.
