On Friday 8th September, a catastrophic 6.8 magnitude earthquake decimated Morocco leaving over 2,900 people dead and over 5,000 injured, followed by a devastating flood just two days later on the northeast coast of Libya that claimed at least 8,000 lives.
Tremors from the Morocco earthquake were felt as far afield as Portugal while Storm Daniel swept into Libya from the Mediterranean causing two dams to burst and obliterating infrastructure and buildings in Derna.
Tens of thousands have lost homes, livelihoods and loved ones, creating an urgent need for basic supplies and shelter. Samaritan’s Purse is supporting on-the-ground partners who are providing
victims in Morocco and Libya with essential supplies, such as food, water and tents. They are appealing for donations to their Africa Crisis Relief Fund to help provide physical and spiritual aid where it is most needed.
We are collecting donations for this appeal as a church. If you would like to contribute please either transfer money to the church bank account or give cash/cheques in an envelope to James, Ali or Sharon, who will make sure it gets to the right place. Please make sure all donations are clearly labelled Morocco and Libya Disaster Appeal.
Thank you.
