The Book of Revelation will take us into the world of the persecuted church. Sadly, too many of our brothers and sisters already live there.
Christians in India can find themselves viewed as traitors to their culture. Every day they face discrimination and unfair treatment. Many have been driven out of their homes and villages. Others have faced violence, injury and even death.
That’s why, this August, Open Doors are asking churches to stand alongside persecuted Christians in India in prayer. Please pray For protection from violence: Violence against Christians in India is rising at an alarming rate.
For the persecutors
Hindu extremists have created an environment of discrimination and violence against Christians. Pray that those who oppose Christianity will encounter Jesus.
For church leaders
Being a Christians pastor is one of the riskiest jobs in India.
For those accused of converting others
Pastor Shekhar was arrested, tortured and driven from his town by extremists who accused him of paying Hindus to convert.
For the repeal of unjust laws
Two more states have just introduced radical anti-conversion laws. Pray that those laws will be repealed.
For resilience
Extremists sometimes force new Christians to take part in a ‘homecoming’ ceremony, where they are pressured to return to Hinduism.
For healthcare and healing
Mehr was beaten by her neighbours after she converted to Christianity. In hospital, doctors and nurses were bribed not to treat her, because she’s a Christian.
Geetika is a single parent of two. She came to faith after Jesus healed her. She sells vegetables on the street to earn a living but faces constant hostility from her neighbours. Earning a daily meal for her family is a challenge.
Pray for Christians in India.
