It is ten years exactly since the depressing picture opposite appeared in the Adver. under the headline, “Penhill Church windows broken 28 times in two months.” What hope was there for change? Well—wind the clock on one decade and there is another story to tell.
Penhill Community Church held its first service in September 2019. It was made up of believers coming together from a number of different Swindon churches. Their aim was to plant of a new Christian community in Penhill, with a mission to reach out with the good news of Jesus.
Just six months later Covid struck and everything had to be re-thought. They write: “We are, like everyone else, in lockdown, but are gearing ourselves up for the opportunities that will arise in a time of greater freedom to meet and worship.”
They have had more Good News: “The Lord has opened a door for us (literally!) to take out a 5-year lease on the Penhill Gospel Hall on Penhill Drive. We were able to obtain this through the Church Growth Trust. Now we can meet during the week, for parent and toddler groups, youth meetings and other activities.
Please pray that God will open hearts to the Gospel in our community.“ Let’s do that. Let’s pray for this new work and for these enterprising people.
