Being on the electoral roll does not make you a “member” of St John’s. Simply regarding St. John’s as your spiritual home does that. Indeed, a condition of joining the electoral roll is that you are already a member here at St John’s!

Do I have to join?

No—you can be a full and active member of the church without signing anything. However, the roll shows the strength of the church both locally and nationally. When the media talk about the numbers of people attending church, this is based on Electoral Roll figures.

You do, however, have to be on the Electoral Roll if you want to stand for PCC yourself or vote for PCC members who will represent you.

Most importantly, it matters at a personal level. The Roll is a statement and a witness. For many people, joining the Electoral Roll has been a step along the path to discipleship. It says to everyone, “I am willing to stand up and be counted.”

So, if St John’s is your spiritual home, we encourage you to join the church electoral roll.
