Sending a cheque to Foodbank from the PCC every year is definitely a good thing to do. I churches in Swindon stopped doing that, Foodbank would struggle to survive.

But in addition to financial support as a church, a number of our members are involved on a hands-on basis as Foodbank Volunteers.

That means turning up to work at the warehouse next to Bible Society, sorting the contributions of food received into the bags which will be given out, or managing the huge amount of produce that arrives every Harvest. In addition, some church members help at the distribution centres in town.

Up to now, if you wanted to be involved with the people actually in receipt of supplies from Foodbank, you could not do it in St John’s.

But all that is about to change. Next week Lizzie and Russell will be telling us how. Suffice it to say at the moment that we are looking at becoming a distribution centre starting on a Tuesday morning in the near future. More next week!
