The Good Friday Walk of Witness
This remains a very popular activity for the local churches on Good Friday. This year we will gather at St. Andrews Church on Moredon Road (SN25 3DF) for a 10am start. We will then proceed down Church Walk North and end up at Emmanuel URC for a service commencing at 10:30am. Gerald England writes: Due to the numbers of people who normally attend, and the capacity of Emmanuel being around 130 seats, we have decided to have a separate activity for children led by Ben and Lucy.
Maundy Thursday and Good Friday
Both services take place at 7:45 pm. The first will follow the 9am pattern in terms of hymns, the organ and a formal communion service. The second will follow the 11am pattern led by our worship group. As ever, we encourage our members to go through the sadness of Holy Week. It is the only way fully to appreciate the joy of Easter.
This year the dawn service will take place at Barbury Castle on Easter Day at 5:45am. A number of churches come together for that service from all over Swindon. It is quite a sight to stand on the hill and watch the car lights streaming up the hill to Barbury. On a sad note, it will be the last SonRise Service for Michael Johnson, the vicar of Wroughton. He retires in May.
