JAM preparation meeting
A big thank you to all who have agreed to help with J.A.M in Deep Water. We will be holding our preparation meeting on Tuesday 27 April at 7:30pm in church. This is an essential meeting for all involved and we hope you will be able to attend. If you are unable to come please let Andrew Carpenter know.
Thank you to all those who have collected the materials we need for JAM over the past weeks. We now have sufficient supplies for our needs and you can stand down from your collecting activities!
ROCK-et Launch - Sunday 25th April!
In celebration of the completion of the Lounge and the Kitchen there will be a combined joint service, when Alan Hawker will preach, for both the 9:00am and the 11:00am congregations at 10:30am followed by lunch at 12.00 noon which will be in the form of a buffet.
In order for us to know how many to cater for would you please write your name on the list that is on the table in the vestibule and the number of people in your family, together with ages if there are children. If you require a lift please make sure you indicate this on the same list. Any queries please do not hesitate to contact Pauline Davis or Jeanne Carpenter.
Annual Parochial Church Meeting
Monday 19th April 2010 at 7:30pm. The APCM gives us the opportunity to review the past and consider the future. New PCC members will be elected, and a new churchwarden appointed as Pauline comes to the end of the period of office. More will be said about that on the day. Rod Mortimer will continue to serve as churchwarden. Anyone may propose and second a number of the congregation to serve in the PCC. You do that by writing their name in the form on the notice board. They need to be on the electoral roll, and you need to have asked their permission Leadership.
We will also be commissioning our Ministry Leadership Team at the APCM, as well as our new Pastoral Care Team. A special edition of the bulletin will be produced the day before the APCM to introduce these teams and explain their role in St John's. We want everyone to know as much about them as possible.
Thanks to our PCC Members: We want to say a big "Thank you" to Chris Hawkes, Lesley Hawkes, Andrew Carpenter, Chris Alcock and Becki Jones whose term of office on PCC came to an end at a meeting on Monday. We thank them for all the work they've done . Andrew has chaired our meetings for the last three years, which has made life much easier for Raymond.
Pastoral Care Team
The new Pastoral Care Team are gradually finding their feet. If you know of anyone who would like a visit, either because they are ill, or just because they'd like a friendly chat over a cuppa, please let Sharon Mortimer know.
St John's Annual Report and Accounts 2009
The Report and Accounts for 2009 are now available to view on the church notice board. If you would like to have a copy to read through before the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (which is to be held on Monday 19th April 2010) please have a word with our Treasurer, Andrew.
Uganda visit
A number of people have shown interest in a visit to Uganda. Chris Hawkes did some research on costs and brought it to the last PCC meeting. Bearing in mind that we are looking two or three years ahead, our estimate is that a visit to Uganda is likely to cost approximately £1500 per person, including flights, accommodation, food, transport and a four-day safari. We did not discuss the best time of the year to go. That will have to be decided at a later date, and in consultation with the people we shall be visiting in Uganda. We don't want to go, for example, at a time when the schools in Luweero are on holiday. But, if you are considering the possibility of going to Uganda, at least you have some idea of what it might cost. So, if you are planning to be on the trip, you could start saving.
Homegroup material is now available
Mark Sansome has been encouraging me for some time to read a book called 'Travelling Light' by Max Lucado. I did, and found it to be just as good as he had said. The author has helpfully provided homegroup studies to go along with it. What could be better? If you were at the Good Friday evening service, you will have heard some passages read aloud from 'Travelling Light'.
New Electoral Roll
The new Electoral Roll is now on display in the lobby. Please check your entry carefully and let Sharon Mortimer know if there are any errors.
Counters & Bankers
We are so grateful to the people who are on the rota to count and bank our offerings each week. Because there are 16 people on the rota, the counters are on duty only once every 8 weeks and they count the money immediately after the 11:00am service is finished. The only rewards are the grateful thanks of our Churchwardens and Treasurer, coffee or tea and biscuits, and the knowledge that they are performing a valuable and important service.
Andrew will be preparing the rota for May to August in the next couple of weeks. If you are currently on the rota and would like to be relieved of this service, please let Andrew know by Monday 5th April. If you would like to join the loyal band of counters and bankers, please have a word with our Treasurer, Andrew, also by 5th April.
Booking of Rooms by Church Members
Would you please ensure that if you would like to book one of the church rooms for a Home Group meeting etc., would you please not assume that the room you require will be available to you (as happened recently to one of the church family). You are required please to ring the Parish Office to book a room through Janice. This is for everyone's protection so that rooms are not double booked - or full of furniture! If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Pauline Davis.
Parish Office
The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. Please provide all items for the bulletin in writing first thing on Wednesday please!
Do you buy on line?
If so, please consider buying through http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church receives commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.
There are over 100 retailers involved (including M&S, Amazon, John Lewis, Comet) some of which offer exclusive discounts and promotions - and best of all ... there is no extra cost to the purchaser!
Tape Ministry
If you or someone you know would like a recording of the service, please contact Nigel Crowhurst, our Tape Co-ordinator. We have also started to podcast some of our sermons.
