Growing leaders

The PCC will be looking tomorrow evening, with Charles Burgess from the Church Pastoral Aid Society [CPAS], at the whole issue of Growing Leaders. I want to take some time in the bulletin to explain what that is all about.

Take a look at the following three statements from the CPAS website:

Research shows that growing, healthy churches have effective leadership at every level – from small group leaders to the minister. Yet many churches struggle to identify and resource leaders. People are busy. Time is limited. Yet growing healthy leaders is vital to church growth. How do we square the circle?

CPAS has a track record of working with church leaders. It has produced the Growing Leaders course. Over the course of a year, its unique mix of teaching, mentoring and practical application focuses on developing leadership in the local church.

Growing Leaders has ten sessions in three parts taking place on a monthly basis.

Part 1 - Firm foundations for Christian leadership

Part 2 - Key skills of Christian leadership

Part 3 - Keeping faithful in Christian leadership

FoodbankSwindon Food Bank

The next Food Bank collection is on Saturday 20th June from 9:00am – 4:00pm at Sainsburys Bridgemead. They are short of volunteers so if you are able to give up 1 or 2 hours on that day, they would very much appreciate it. If you can help, please put your name down on the sheet in the foyer.

Tesco has agreed to allow Food Bank to do store collections following representation from Richard and Sandra Belsham's son, Simon. They will be having their first collection at Tesco in Ocotal Way on Saturday 25th July.

The next Food Bank Quiz Night is being held on Friday 3rd July at Gateway Church (formerly Swindon Family Church) in Westlea. Further details to follow in future bulletins or contact Russell Riggs for more information.

Counting & banking rota

We are grateful to the St. John's members who count the offerings each Sunday after the 11:00am service is over. They work in pairs on a rota basis (once in every six weeks). However, we will be losing two of our counters from September and would like to hear from others who would be willing to join the rota. If you are good at counting money and are willing to be involved, or would like to have more information about what the job entails, please speak to our Treasurer, Andrew, or to one of the Churchwardens.

Parish Office

The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. All items for the bulletin to Wendy in writing first thing on Wednesday please!

Do you buy on line?

We have received our first commission cheque amounting to more than £50! Log on via our website or go directly to http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church will receive commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.

There are over 100 retailers involved (including M&S, Amazon, John Lewis, Comet) some of which offer exclusive discounts and promotions - and best of all ... there is no extra cost to the purchaser!

Tape Ministry

If you or someone you know would like a recording of the service, please contact Nigel Crowhurst, our Tape Co-ordinator.
