Prayer topics this week

Our new Welcome Team initiative. In 'Volunteer Week' for all those who volunteer.

Ron Smith

It was with sadness that we heard of the death of Ron Smith last Sunday. Ron, who was aged 88, had been very ill for some time and had been in the Great Western Hospital for the last six weeks leading up to his death. Please pray for his daughter, Amanda, and for other members of the family. Ron's funeral will be in St. John's on Thursday 4th June at 12 noon followed by the Committal at Kingsdown Crematorium at 1:00pm. Family flowers only but donations in lieu of flowers, in memory of Ron, are for the Wiltshire Cardiac Unit. Cheques should be made payable to St. John's PCC and passed to Andrew Dean in envelopes marked 'Ron Smith'.

St John's has got talent

It certainly does. Emma Bessent and Tabbi Madni showed us just how well they could act at the Entertainment Evening a few weeks ago. Raymond made a note in his diary to follow them up, and Emma and Tabbi will be appearing again in a brand-new sketch, written by Raymond at the All Age Service on Sunday 14th June. Simon Cowell - watch out for two rising stars.

Not quite Oscar material

Raymond has meanwhile been working very hard to find a place in the service for a couple stuffing their faces with Ferrero Rocher chocolates. He might just find a use for you, if we ever study the story of Belshazzar's feast in Daniel. You could be the visual aid. Unfortunately, Tony and Sarah Mann, until then, it's a case of "Don't call us..."

Missing

A 6-7" White Corning casserole dish, with handles, for a slow cooker has gone missing. It contained a pork & apple casserole for 6-8 people complete with potatoes and vegetables. There was a label with my name (Viv Williams) and contact details attached to the dish for its return. If you have my dish would you kindly return to church for collection.

Welcome Team

Please make sure that you have picked up a copy of "The Welcome Team". This will help you know what's going on, enable you to pray for the team, and help you to decide whether this is something God is calling you to be part of.

If you would like to be considered for The Welcome Team, please fill in your name on one of the cards near the red box in the foyer, and pop it in that same red box.

From the Master of Ceremonies Himself

Raymond pointed out last week that he is in the embarrassing position of having the Bishop of Bristol's Bible in his desk at the front of church. He needs to find a way of getting it back to him – secretly. Andy Hall made another point after the service, "Isn't it a bit worrying that it's been several weeks since he has been here, and the Bishop still hasn't noticed that he has lost his Bible?" I'm sure there is a good explanation! There has to be! Suggestions on a postcard to Wendy.

The Gardening Team

We want to say an official thank you in the bulletin to Steve Bessent, Janet Gash, Nigel Crowhurst and Tim Hunt for all the work they've done in the garden and on the lawn. It's looking great. We really appreciate it.

Sidespersons wanted at 9:00am and 11:00am

Could you please have a word with Andrew this morning if you would be willing to act as sidesperson once a month at the 9:00am service. We also need someone to act as sidesperson at the 11:00am service. It simply involves greeting people, and giving them the bulletin - with a smile.

Pentecost Prayers

A big thank you to Deana Toogood for organising the children this morning. Because it is half term, we give our normal leaders a rest, and have a united children's group. What will they be doing? Wait and see - because it will appear before you at the end of the service.

One more person needed for coffee at 11:00am

Someone has dropped out of the Coffee Rota, so we need a replacement. The first day you will be needed is Sunday 14th June. If you are able to help with that, Pauline or Rod would love to hear from you this morning.

Have you a couple of hours to spare?

Or do you know someone who might be able to help at a day centre making sandwiches and drinks for the homeless – possibly only once a week? The work is town centre based with parking available close to the bus station. This is a rewarding job. Please ring Beryl on 525303 for more details.

Parish Office

The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. All items for the bulletin to Wendy in writing first thing on Wednesday please!
