Raymond's Installation as Canon

We were delighted to announce three weeks ago, that Raymond will be installed as Honorary Canon at Bristol Cathedral at 3:30pm on Saturday, 2nd May. We are planning to take members of the congregation by coach to Bristol to support Raymond on his special day. If you would like to be there to see Raymond installed, please sign the coach list on the table in the church foyer. The subsidised coach cost will be £5 per ticket for adults - £3 for children and young people aged 15 and under. BUT HURRY! The coach is filling up - there are only 10 seats left!

When we return from Bristol (at about 6:15pm) we will be holding a buffet reception at St. John's to which all members of the church are invited (even if they have been unable to join us in the Cathedral). And the celebrations will continue with an evening of unsurpassed entertainment starting at about 7:30pm! The evening is absolutely free and we hope you will put the date in your diary so that you can join us for a great time of fellowship. But we do need to know what numbers to expect for catering purposes, so please sign up on the list on the table in the church foyer. And if you are willing to display your entertainment skills on that evening, Andy Hall, our resident MC will be delighted to hear from you - there's a list for that too!

Revd. Joe Morris - Funeral and Memorial Service

Please continue to pray for Chuck, Kath and Katie, and other members of the family, as they mourn the loss of Joe. The family invites all to join them at either or both of the services which have been arranged as follows: Joe's funeral will be held in St. Mary's Church, Great Dunmow, Essex, on Saturday, 21st March at 2:00pm. Afterwards there will be a Bring and Share meal together and you are invited to bring food - drinks will be provided. Joe expressed no preference for flowers or donations in lieu of flowers. Donations are for Interserve. Joe spent 6 months working with Interserve. Donations can be passed to our Treasurer, Andrew and should be marked 'Joe/Interserve' with cheques payable to St. John's PCC.

On Friday, 3rd April at 3:00pm there will be a Memorial Service in celebration of Joe's life, here in St. John's. Those attending either service are invited to bring a photo or reminiscence to put in the Remembrance Book. Alternatively, friends may just wish to write who they are and where they met Joe. There will be a bowl for donations for Interserve at the Memorial Service.

New Service Booklets

We had been receiving comments that our service booklets for the 9:00am service were looking rather worn with use. As a result, Lesley Hawkes has re-typed all our service books while Chris was in Uganda, incorporating new material. The books contain a new Eucharistic prayer for use on ordinary Sundays, and variations for Lent and Advent. We now have a complete new range of all the 9:00am services. Thanks to Andrew Dean and Terry Rawlings who put together our previous service cards.

Ugandan Developments

Raymond was able to hand over letters from the head teachers of two Ugandan schools to Mrs Prichard in Greenmeadow School and to Mr Cowley in Haydon Wick. The children were able to hear the contents of the letters, and an exciting new link has been formed with both of these schools. It is our hope that teachers will be able to go out to Uganda this year. Amos Kisekka, Bishop Evans' son, has just returned from rural Kenya on a very successful mission with Bible Society. He writes that villagers woke them in the night to ask to hear more about Jesus.

Street Pastors

We have been given a DVD to demonstrate the work that is done every weekend in Swindon which we will show as soon as we get an opportunity. If anyone is interested in finding out more about Street Pastors or perhaps considering becoming a Street Pastor yourself, then Raymond can let you have the package which will provide you with full details of the work, and the details of the next training course.

IMPACT

Many thanks to Anna Hedley and Karen Madni who took a group from St John's to IMPACT last weekend. From what we have heard already, everyone had a fantastic time, and the young people are keen to tell us about it, once they have put their presentation together. We can't wait. This sounds like a great development for Swindon.
