HandsPrayer topics this week

For those supporting Fairtrade Fortnight and the difference it makes to peoples lives. Our own preparations for Holy Week. For the gift of friends.

Renewal of giving

Our Treasurer announced the result of the Renewal of Giving at last Sunday's services. The response has been excellent and we want to thank all those who responded. However, we still face a deficit of approximately £6,000 on the General Account this year.

If you are one of those who have still not returned your completed Promise Card it will help us to plan our finances for the year ahead if you do so.

Book coverIt All Goes Back in the Box

If you ordered a copy of the book and have not yet received it, or paid for it, please see Andrew Dean after the service today.

Filling station

Please pick up your envelopes for Filling Station that are in the foyer this week. The next date is Maundy Thursday (20th March). Thank you to all who contribute towards this very needful situation. Further details, or offers of help, please speak to Mary Southgate.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

If you were one of the children who saw this last week, and would love to know how the story ends, please sign up, or ask your parents to sign up, on the sheet at the back of Church. The story is one of CS Lewis's Narnia adventures and is one of the most exciting books you will ever read.

David Richardson writes from Kabul

"I have just arrived as Garrison Chaplain in Kabul, living in an old Russian grain factory. It's nothing like as bad as it sounds and in fact is much better than where I was before. I've got my own room - and my office is more spacious than the one I have at Lyneham! We also have a little chapel here. Numbers are small at the minute, but we'll see what some publicity can do! Hopefully, I am more than halfway through the tour. It will be great to get home again and see the family. How are things going at St. John's? I imagine you're getting geared up for Holy Week and Easter. We had a multi-national service on Ash Wednesday which was a great privilege to attend. One thing I do miss here is having other chaplains around. I am the only UK padre in the city. Please do pray that the ministry here will be effective and actually have an impact for good - one of the things we are trying to do is make the chapel an even more comfortable and welcoming place so that people are more likely to head into it! Thank you for all the prayers and support."

Lost Property

We now have a Lost Property Box, for placing in items left behind in the Church. We will not be able to take responsibility for these items and will put a 4 week date on them. If they are not claimed in that period then we will dispose of article(s).

ScrollThe Church Electoral Roll

The Electoral Roll is being revised between Sunday 9th March and Sunday 6th April. If you are a regular worshipper at St. John's and would like to be on the roll, please see Sharon Mortimer for more details and an application form. Also, if you are already on the roll but have changed your address or phone number since last April please let Sharon know your new details.

SAS

The next SAS session will be on Sunday 9th March where we will be going to Pulse in Old Town. Anna will be in touch to confirm details.

Drama for Easter

You may have seen Mark Topping playing John Wesley on BBC's Songs of Praise. He is coming to Freshbrook Evangelical Church on Saturday 22nd of March at 7:30 pm to present "My Own Familiar Friend". In this production he once again portrays John Wesley. This time he celebrates the life of his brother Charles, the great hymn-writer, preacher and co-founder of Methodism, born 300 years ago. The evening will reveal Charles Wesley, the man, not just just the gifted hymn-writer. The evening is in two parts, each lasting 40 minutes. There is more information in the foyer.
