Prayer topics this week
The Archbishop of Canterbury and the sustained pressure under which he lives. For our Diocesan Board of Finance, and those with responsibility for managing the diocesan budget.
Visitors for Joe
Joe would love to receive visitors from St. John's during his convalescence. If you do not have satellite navigation, you can enter his postcode in the AA or RAC website and you will get good directions from there. It is SN3 6PP and the address is 23 Richmond Street.
Prayer circle
Here at St. John's we run a Prayer Circle for the benefit of anyone in need of prayer and support at short notice.
It involves little effort on the part of those in the Circle apart from praying for someone in need, and passing the request on by a telephone call.
If you feel you could help in this way then please contact our Prayer Circle Co-ordinator, Jean Dean, or speak to her in church next Sunday, and she will be happy to give you more information.
Easter breakfast
Someone from 9:00 a.m. has kindly offered to help make breakfast in Church on Easter Day. She does not want to organise it, but is happy to assist. If anyone else is prepared to take responsibility for breakfast on that morning, we could share it together in Church. Or you might simply prefer cooked breakfasts in small groups at home.
Congratulations to our Treasurer
Following a discussion at PCC, Andrew wrote a long letter to the diocese, expressing the PCC's opinion on various financial issues. The Chair of the Diocesan Board of Finance has asked permission to circulate this letter to both Bishops, the Archdeacons and the Area Deans, in order to start a wider debate on the themes discussed. Andrew's letter was described as "the most clear and articulate expression of views we have received for some time."
Cheer him up even more
Imagine trying to organise a Church's finances, when you have no idea of how much money you have coming in. That is, sadly, the position that too many church treasurers find themselves in. It is something we want to avoid here in St. John's.
Andrew does an outstanding job, and we need to help him to do it. That is why we ask you to return your promise card, letting us know how much you intend to give to the Church during 2008.
Knowing the figures makes Andrew's life so much easier. Equally importantly, returning that card brings us all to the point of decision. We would love to see all the cards returned by next Sunday so that we can announce the total on February 24th.
Lent homegroup in church
There will be a 'homegroup' in St. John's on three Tuesdays in Lent - 26th February, and 4th & 11th March - for those who do not normally attend one of our established homegroups.
The evenings will be led by Andrew Dean and will start at 7:30pm with tea/coffee. From 7:45pm we will share worship, Bible study, prayer and discussion and will finish promptly at 9:15pm.
We will be using the same material as the usual homegroups are using in Lent. So, if you are not in a homegroup, why not come and join us in St. John's on one or more of the three Tuesday evenings?
For more information, please telephone Andrew on 725526.
The Church Electoral Roll
The Electoral Roll is being revised between Sunday 9th March and Sunday 6th April. If you are a regular worshipper at St. John's and would like to be on the roll, please see Sharon Mortimer for more details and an application form. Also, if you are already on the roll but have changed your address or phone number since last April please let Sharon know your new details.
Free ink cartridges! First come, first served!
One of the really frustrating things about having to change your printer is that the new one (same make) always seems to use different ink cartridges! Andrew (725526) invites anyone with a printer which uses Epson cartridges T0441 (black), T0452 (cyan) and T0454 (yellow) to contact him to claim one or more FREE cartridges - first come first served!
Contact details
Please email Wendy at the Parish Office your e-mail address so she has each of your details for her records. Please also include your address and phone number at the same time and we can check our postal contact list is up-to-date too. Many more are outstanding, please do mail them in.
The Parish Office
The Parish Office is open on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. All items for the bulletin to Wendy in writing first thing on Wednesday please!
