Church notice sheet - 3 February 2008

HandsPrayer topics this week

Our own individual preparations for Lent. For all those that care for others in their family. Our response to giving. For those serving in our Armed Services.

And still they come!

Thank you to those who have returned their Jars of Grace. The total received so far is 86 Jars (and gifts) totalling £2,300 (a record amount - beating the 2006 total!) including the collections at the Christingle, Carol, and Midnight Communion services, and tax to be recovered on gift-aided gifts. Last year we received 81 Jars/gifts (£2,073).

If you haven't yet done so, please bring your Jar of Grace to church as soon as possible. The proceeds will be shared between UNICEF (to save the lives of children) and Luweero. Cheques should be made payable to St. John's PCC.

Renewal of Giving

Save on Postage! There is an envelope waiting for you. Any envelopes that are left over will have to be posted out on Monday morning. So, do please make sure you pick yours up today, if you have not already done so.

Who gets a Renewal of Giving Pack?

We used to produce envelopes only for those who were members of the electoral roll. However, people not yet on the electoral roll, but worshipping with us regularly, kept on asking for them. We never complained about that! As a result, we now produce a pack for every worshipping member of the church. This might mean that you have been coming for only a month or so and you may not even have decided yet to join the church. But the pack will give you an understanding of what St. John's is doing at the present time, and our approach to giving. Please pray about your response and return the card to our Treasurer, Andrew, in the envelope provided as soon as possible. We would like to have all the responses back BEFORE Sunday 24th February so that the result which we announce at both services on that Sunday will be as full and accurate as possible.

How Can I Get the Book?

If you would like your own copy of "It All Goes Back in the Box ", at the special subsidised price of only £5, please fill in the form in the foyer, or send an e-mail to Wendy, our Parish Administrator.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, and there will be a communion service here in church at 7:45pm.on Wednesday.

Raymond's Snapshots Challenge

Raymond is looking for three children to try a four-week challenge. A new approach to Bible reading has come from Australia, in the form of a camera-sized book called Snapshots. This is for children aged 8 to 10. If you can finish the book, there is a prize. If more than three children would like to do it that would be great. More about that in today’s services.

Palm treeJ.A.M in the Caribbean 2008

This will take place on Saturday 10th May in St John’s Church and we anticipate between 100 and 140 children will attend this annual event.

This is a wonderful opportunity for us to spend time with some of the children of Haydon Wick. However, we will need a lot of help to run the day and would ask you to consider if this is something you could do.

SunWe will need group leaders and assistants, registration assistants, refreshment organisers, first aid assistants and people to move furniture etc in the church.

If you can help, then please sign up on the list in the entrance hall. If you need more information about what is involved please contact Raymond Adams 634258, or Andrew Carpenter 848663.

Please note, if you have already indicated that you are willing to help then there is no need to sign up on the form.
