HandsPrayer topics this week

For all those affected by the cyclone in Burma. For all those within the Aid Agencies, aiming to provide clean water and emergency supplies. For Governments and individuals to provide the necessary support, and for Burma to allow more co-operation. That action will be rapid to reduce the risk of disease.

Humanitarian Crisis in Burma

Five regions of Burma have been affected by the devastating cyclone which hit the country last Saturday (3rd May). The latest news and pictures coming out of Burma tell of a country and people suffering dreadful devastation and awful loss of life. It is estimated that some 100,000 have died and about one million have lost everything and have no clean water. Many more will die without prompt action.

The relief Agencies are responding to this urgent humanitarian crisis as well as, and as quickly as they can and are appealing for aid. There will be retiring offerings after the services both this Sunday, and next, for the Burma Cyclone Crisis Appeal. Cheques should be made payable to St. John's PCC.

Report and Financial Statements for 2007

If you missed the APCM and would like to have a copy of the Report and Accounts (which were unanimously approved and adopted by the meeting) please have a word with Andrew Dean who will be happy to supply one.

PirateThank you to all involved in JAM in the Caribbean

Especially to Andrew Carpenter who has done a remarkable piece of organisation. His planning was meticulous. We also say a huge "Thank you" to Jam Spread and to all those who turned up to help on Friday, Saturday and today. Those of us who were there can now make a ship in a bottle and a lighthouse. And we need to find out the end of the story...

The story so far...

Captain Jack Chicken and his cut-throat band are living on island in the middle of the ocean. However, even though they have all the treasure they could possibly want, they are not as happy as you might expect them to be. They are trapped. They have all the gold and silver and pieces of eight you could possibly want, but the one thing they don't have is freedom. How can they get it? Only one way. They have to give up their treasure and throw themselves on the mercy of the king. He has said he will forgive them....but will he? Can they trust him? Will they find their freedom? Or will it be a prison cell?

Car Parking

In order to get the maximum number of cars onto the grass, please park carefully. The number-one rule is to leave the access area clear.

Swindon Convention

The Keswick convention has been held in the Lake District for many years. It is an opportunity for people from all over the country to come together and hear first class teaching. This has given rise to a number of similar, but much smaller, events in other parts of the country.

Peter Whatley, who organises the Convention in Swindon, somehow manages to bring very high quality speakers to Swindon for this event - but we often do not make as much of it as we could. I was really sorry last year that I had not given this event greater publicity. The speaker, who I had not heard of before, was simply outstanding - as has been the case over many of the last conventions.

The dates this year are Tues May 27th, Wed May 28th and Thurs May 29th, at Freshbrook Evangelical Church at 7:30pm. The speaker will be Rupert Bentley-Taylor.

Can you help?

Swindon Pregnancy Crisis Centre is in need of baby clothes, up to the age of one year old, and baby equipment etc. Equipment must be safe and they are unable to take car seats. If you can help please contact Pam Fletcher.
