Annual Report and Accounts 2007

The St. John's Annual Report and Accounts for 2007 are displayed on the notice board in the church foyer. If anyone would like to have a copy to study in more detail before the Annual Parochial Church meeting on Monday, 28th April, please have a word with Andrew (tel: 725526) who will be happy to supply one.

Resolutions to be proposed at APCM

The PCC has approved two resolutions to be considered and voted on at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting on Monday, 28th April. They are proposed amendments to the Standing Orders (or rules) of the St. John's Parochial Church Council. The first proposed amendment, which was unanimously approved by PCC will, if passed at the APCM, reduce the number of elected PCC members from 2009. The second amendment simply changes the latest finishing time of PCC meetings. Copies of the proposed amendments are on the table in the church foyer. Please do take one and study the changes before the meeting when they will explained further.

Deanery Synod

Deanery Synod meets in the evening about 4 times a year. It's an opportunity for lay and ordained people from all the churches in Swindon to meet together and learn more about what's going on across the diocese and to have some input into decisions that are taken.

At the March meeting this year Bishop Mike spoke about the growing interest in spirituality in society today and encouraged us to have the courage to offer to pray for or with people outside the church as part of our witness, as often people are happy for others to pray for them about particular needs or circumstances.

It's one way of finding out more about issues, training, events and opportunities in the diocese that might be of relevance to us at St. John's.
So, don't just write it off as lots of boring meetings - it's also a chance to keep in touch with the wider Church in Swindon and across the Bristol diocese.

Live for a Change - a free taster day

God invites every human being to offer something to the life of the world, some unique task, or something done in your own inimitable way - a 'song to sing for others' that is your own. Many do not know this. They spend their days dancing to another's tune, meeting others' expectations, at home, or at work, or even in their leisure activities. Or if they sense it might be true, they don't know how to set about discovering it and living it, believing instead that 'vocation' or 'calling' is only full-time and paid - for the experts or the professionals.

During this taster day there will be practical exercises, and opportunities to share your experience of these with others in a small group. We shall be offering you some ways of working with the question of what God is inviting you to do which you can continue to work with after this event. At the end of the day, if you wish to continue with the programme, you will be offered the opportunity to join a group of four which will meet in their own time and at their convenience over the course of the coming 12 months to do the exercises in the book Live for a Change by Francis Dewar. The year long programme costs £50 for which you will get a copy of the book, a CD and two further one-day workshops led by Francis Dewar. There is no obligation whatever by attending on May 17th, just come and enjoy an interesting and stimulating day.

For - anyone wanting to explore the question 'Where is God inviting you to put your energies?'
Date - Saturday 17th May 2008
Time - 10:00am – 4:00pm
Cost - Free (Coffee, tea and lunch will be provided)
Venue - The Village Hall, 335 The Street, Holt, Trowbridge, BA16 6QH
Leader - Francis Dewar, an Anglican parish priest for 21 years and author of "Live for a Change, Called or Collared?", and "Invitations".
