Prayer topics this week
Those considering joining the new home group and for the continued growth and fellowship within our existing home groups. All those working on the seas around our world. For peace to come upon the trouble places around the world, including Afghanistan, Iraq and Tibet. The many people working within our community, whether paid or voluntary. The wonders of the seasons, and the signs of Spring around us now.
Barbury Castle
At the time of writing the weather forecast says it will be raining at Barbury Castle at 6:00am on Easter Day and the temperature will not be much above freezing! So if you were one of the martyrs who suffered there this morning, I hope you found the experience spiritually rewarding! Unless of course Raymond's desperate prayers for a miracle were answered and it was a morning of golden sunshine.
A Big Thank You to the Shield and Dagger
Our thanks go to the management of the Shield and Dagger pub for allowing us to use their car-park on the morning of Good Friday. It made a safe place for the local churches to gather.
Next Sunday
Next Sunday is Low Sunday (the Sunday next after Easter). The 'Low' does not, and should not, refer to the size of the congregations! The name 'Low' probably arises from the contrast between the joys of Easter and the return to ordinary Sunday services. But there will be nothing 'ordinary' about next Sunday!
Dave Day will be preaching on the theme: 'Peter's Easter - On the Shore' and David and Fiona Newton and their family will be bringing Jennifer to be baptised and welcomed into the Lord's family during the 11:00am service (which will not be an All-Age service as originally advertised).
And don't be late! Next Sunday morning British Summer Time begins and the clocks go forward one hour!
Changes to Services in March and April
Raymond will be away on March 30 and April 13. Dave and Andrew will be preaching on those dates. The aim, over the next three Sundays is for our children and young people to watch the final three instalments of "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader," which they began a couple of weeks ago. This is in the same Narnia series as "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" and will be made into a film in a couple of year's time. So here is your chance to see it here first. This means that March 30th, April 6th and April 13 will all be services aimed at adults and not children. Thank you to those who will be looking after the children on those days.
Food Bank
Owing to ill health the Food Bank is in need of a volunteer to help at the warehouse for a couple of months (come when you can). This entails a couple of hours on Thursday mornings. We pick a set list of food and box it ready to be taken to the distribution centre in town. If you can spare any time and would like to help please call Brian for details on 07954 386722.
Hold the Front Page!
Russell Riggs has been appointed as the church's Publicity Officer. It was great to see a piece about the Barbury Castle service in the Advertiser this week.
Newcomer's Tea
Amazingly three of the four prizes on offer were won by the same family at last week's Newcomer's Tea. [No, it was not, in fact the Adams' family! and shame on you for thinking that!] Tod and Sue Clarke [from 9:00am] and their grand-children Sam and Sonny swept the board! And although it was honestly not planned as a recruiting campaign, a number of people also signed up to help at JAM. We really do appreciate that very much.
The Church Electoral Roll
There are only two weeks left before the revision of the church electoral roll ends. If you have a form please make sure you get it back to Sharon before the deadline of 6th April or it will be too late for this year. If you are already on the roll there is no need to re-apply but please let Sharon know if you have changed any of your details since last year.
Home groups
We hope to start a new home group after the holidays. More information about that when things are firmed up, but if you would be interested in joining a group there will be a paper for you to sign in the foyer after the service.
The Parish Office
The Parish Office will be closed this coming week and will re-open on Wednesday 2nd April.
