The leaders, members and any prospective members of the home groups. For those returning to work, schools, colleges and universities.
Building project
We have received another very generous gift of £700 which means we are now only about £750 short of the estimated cost to complete all aspects of the building project. Meanwhile, the phials are still coming in - 130 have been returned containing £862. Please bring your phials back as soon as possible.
Home groups
Home group leaders will find material relating to the next session available in the foyer. A remarkable book has recently been published by John Ortberg, under the title "It all goes back in the box." It is one of those books which manages to say a great number of things in a humerous way. We will be looking at it over the next few weeks (and we will be giving church members the opportunity to buy a copy).
John Ortberg takes a thoughtful look at life using the game of Monopoly as a metaphor. Here is an excerpt introducing Lamech as one of the less pleasant Old Testament characters (and this time has nothing to do with Monopoly).
"Imagine being told to carry a rock the size of a bowling ball around with you all the time. It's heavy and inconvenient, but you can never put it down. It's called a grudge. We have interesting language surrounding grudges. We talk about them the way we talk about babies: you can hold a grudge, carry a grudge or bear a grudge. We even talk about nursing a grudge. When you nurse something, you feed it that which will keep it alive and make it grow. Funny thing - you would think no one would pick up one of the heavy burdens and carry it around voluntarity. Nobody's ever said, "I can't wait to pick up my grudge this morning and carry it around another day." But people do - every day. Lamech might be called the patron saint of the grudge."
The Parish Office
The Parish Office is now open for business! Our Parish Administrator, Wendy Hiscock (whose appointment we announced a few weeks ago) will be in the office on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9am to 1pm. If you have any items which you would like included in the bulletin, please let Wendy have them by 9am on Wednesday morning. The telephone number of the office is 726000. Please make a note of this number. The e-mail address of the Parish Office will be confirmed next week.
