St John's pram club

St John's pram club has been in existence for over 25 years, first being set up when we were in the old St John's, and praise the Lord it is still going strong. We have two sessions – 9:30 to 11:30am and 1:30 to 3:30pm on a Monday during school term time. It is attended by parents/guardians with mainly children who have not reached preschool age.

Alas, due to the health of some of our volunteers who have had to retire we are now short of help in the making and serving of coffee and tea. During the session you will also have plenty of opportunity to talk with the other members and children. If you would like to help in this important church outreach project, feel you could do an occasional Monday and would like your name added to the rota, please contact Linda Gough.

J.A.M. Spread needs your help!

Do you work for a printer or can you get a definite discount on the production of approximately 1000 A6 sized invitations and some A3/A4 posters? We need to promote J.A.M. in the Ark at the Haydon Centre on Saturday, 28th April. If you can, please contact Tony Mann or Andrew Carpenter.

The team also needs help on the day. We are looking for leaders, helpers, refreshment person(s), scenery builders, arts & crafts people, puppeteers, actors/actresses, door bouncers, registrars, a video operator, cleaners (for afterwards) and any volunteers for the not mentioned.

If you can help, please put your name and preferred role on the list in the foyer.

A date for a meeting will follow shortly.
Thank you from all the team.

Getting together socially

About 25 people went with Toby and Tamsin to The Dockle Farmhouse last Sunday lunchtime. We had a really nice time. Service was a little slow, but the food was excellent and moderately priced.

A few people suggested the idea of meeting on a regular basis, perhaps once every four, six or eight weeks after church. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please have a word with Raymond and we will announce a date in the not too distant future.

Before your very eyes!

It's good to see the construction work to the church annex proceeding so well and the work should be finished in about three months time. If you have not already contributed towards the cost of the building project, and would like to do so, it is not too late! If you have made a pledge, we would like these to be converted into gifts by the time the work is completed if at all possible. It will be particularly helpful if Gift Aided gifts are made before 5th April (the end of the tax year) so that we can recover the tax from the Revenue by the end of May. We are also happy for pledges to be paid by installments (and we understand some installment payments will continue for many months). Cheques should be made payable to St John's PCC and passed to our treasurer, Andrew.

When the construction work is completed, we will need furniture, equipment, carpets and curtains. You can help by filling phials for furnishings! Just take one of the phials from the basket in the church room and fill it with your small change. Already six have been returned containing a total of £77.89!

Renewal of giving

We are presently distributing the brochures which form the basis of our annual Renewal of Giving. This year, our aim is to announce the results of the Renewal of Giving on Palm Sunday – April 1. It is very important that we get a high percentage of pledge cards returned. Andrew, our treasurer, needs to plan the church's expenditure. He can do this properly only if he has a clear idea of how much income is available to him.

Pentecostal minister

Terry and Joan Rawlings will represent St John's when the Pentecostal church welcomes its new minister on Saturday, 10 March. The service will take place at 5:00pm in the church in Osborne Street. If anyone else would like to join Terry and Joan, you are more than welcome.

Electoral Roll

This year we have to draw up a new Electoral Roll which means that if you wish to be on St John's Electoral Roll, you will have to fill in a new form, even if you are on the existing roll. If you are new to St John's and wish to join the Electoral Roll, now is the time to do so. Forms will be available in church next week, so please please make sure you do not leave without one. If you have any any queries please contact our Electoral Roll Officer, Sharon Mortimer.

Women's world day of prayer

Brenda Hunt is looking for a volunteer to join with others from St John's to read a few lines at the Women's World Day of Prayer service at 7:30pm on 2nd March at St Andrew's, Moredon Road. If you would like to help, please contact Brenda. Also on the same day there will be a special service at St Mary's Akers Way at 10:00am.

Do you buy on line?

We have received our first commission cheque amounting to more than £50! Log on via our website or go directly to http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church will receive commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.

There are over 100 retailers involved (including M&S, Amazon, John Lewis, Comet) some of which offer exclusive discounts and promotions - and best of all ... there is no extra cost to the purchaser!

Tape Ministry

If you or someone you know would like a recording of the service, please contact Nigel Crowhurst, our Tape Co-ordinator.
