Cyclone crisis in Bangladesh
The retiring offerings on the last two Sundays totalled £183.50 (plus Gift Aid tax refund to come of £28.21). Any further gifts can be passed to our Treasurer, Andrew, in envelopes marked 'Bangladesh Appeal'. Cheques should be made payable to St. John's PCC.
Angels
Our homegroup theme for the last five weeks has been Angels. As well as doing some thinking, members have also had a lot of fun making things. You can see some of the Angels that have been produced at the front of the church. However, we want even more!
Next week the children will be producing some more mobiles to go either side of the ones already there. Kerry Garside will be letting the children loose on her craft box, but if homegroup leaders, or other church members, have spare materials like those listed, they would be gratefully received.
We would love to have tissue paper, card, scraps of silk, wire wool, cotton wool, ribbon, wire, feathers, glitter, handmade paper, coloured felt and tinsel.
Jars of grace
Have you started your Jar of Grace yet? You've still got time to do so. Last year, the total raised was a magnificent £2,073 from 81 jars!! Can we reach 100 jars this year?
The proceeds will be shared between UNICEF (to save the lives of children) and Luweero. You can use your own jar (clean please!) - but do start now - and use your Jar of Grace for your mealtime thank offerings between now and Christmas.
Christingle
If you missed last Sunday's Christingle Service, you really missed a treat! 175 people attended and the collection, for the Jar of Grace Appeal, totalled £162.36. Our thanks, for their hard work, go to Judy Evans (who organised the making of the Christingle and the refreshments) and to her Christingle making team - Anna Richardson, Louise Burrows, Molly Heath, Sam Turner, Phil Evans and John Evans. And thank you too to Delroy and Natalie King and the children who decorated the Christmas tree in time for the service.
Christmas flowers
If you would like to contribute to the cost of the flowers used to decorate St John's Church this Christmas, please pass your donation to Andrew by Sunday, 16th December at the latest.
If this is to mark a special occasion or is in memory of a loved one, we will note this in the bulletin on Sunday, 23rd December if you let Andrew have a note in writing with your donation.
Christmas cards
Today the boxes for your Christmas cards to other members of the congregation have been out on the table in the foyer. Please make sure you put your cards in the correct alphabetical box by surname (not Christian name!). Please only put cards in the boxes for members who you confidently expect to be in church during December. And please check the boxes regularly to see if there are any cards for you. We regret we cannot take responsibility to deliver any cards which have not been retrieved from the boxes by Sunday, 6th January, 2008 when the boxes will be put away for another year.

Alternative nativity service
Our children are going to have a nativity service at Rove’s Farm this morning. Because they all go to different schools and live in different places not many of our children meet each other during the week. This is a good opportunity to develop friendships outside the 45 minutes they spend together in their groups each Sunday morning. Karen and Diane will be looking after any children who are in church today.
Jam In the Caribbean
That's where we're going in 2008. We plan to make some spectacular lighthouses for which we need one large cardboard tube per child. Could you please start collecting them straight away. We will let you know when we get enough!. So, after you have wrapped your turkey in tinfoil, please don't throw the tube away, save them and bring them to church - for Jam 2008!
Do you buy on line?
We have received our first commission cheque amounting to more than £50! Log on via our website or go directly to http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church will receive commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.
There are over 100 retailers involved (including M&S, Amazon, John Lewis, Comet) some of which offer exclusive discounts and promotions - and best of all ... there is no extra cost to the purchaser!
Tape Ministry
If you or someone you know would like a recording of the service, please contact Nigel Crowhurst, our Tape Co-ordinator.
