The Humanitarian Crisis in Uganda

Uganda is facing its worst humanitarian crisis in over 50 years following torrential rain and floods. This year's harvest has been wiped out and the future is very bleak. Today, and next Sunday (Harvest Sunday), we have the opportunity to give of our plenty to help those who have nothing. You will find a plate at the door for retiring offerings for the Uganda Crisis Appeal. Cheques should be made payable to St. John's PCC.

Parish Administrator

The post involves working in the parish office two days a week, although this may increase. Applicants must have typing, secretarial and administrative skills. E-mail and web skills are also essential. He or she will have a friendly and approachable manner, able to work both with church members and the wider public. For further information please contact Pauline Davis.

Calling all Leaders and helpers for Children's groups!

A new term and new records! We need all leaders and helpers to be in touch if they have not had a recent CRB check. This check involves completing a form and attending a short meeting but please don't be put off as it's a vital part of our children's work. Any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact James or Jo Bennett on Sunday and we'll try to guide you through the process.

We did it! We did it!

I always knew we could! I have now received 153 toy bags to go into the Shoe Boxes. Thank you so much those people who helped us achieve and go beyond our target of 100. Your efforts are really appreciated. Every one of the 153 bags will go towards bringing a smile to the face of a needy child at Christmas time. I must give a special thank you to three people:

St. John's Giving Scheme

If you are in the St. John's envelope scheme, your set of envelopes for your giving in 2008 is ready for you to collect. Please make sure you have them before you leave church this morning. If you are not already in the St. John's Giving Scheme and would like a set of envelopes, please speak to our treasurer, Andrew. He will also be very happy to give you information about giving to God's work at St. John's by Standing Order and about Gift Aid giving.

A seaside community

From a leaflet given to visitors to the Broad Haven Baptist Church, Pembrokeshire:

Pebbles"We rejoice in being set in a seaside community, and you will see the design on the front of this leaflet contains a beach pebble. In the Church family we are quite a collection of 'pebbles' - different colours, different shapes, some rough, some smooth, thrown together by the wind and waves of God's directing, and working together for the well being of the local community and beyond. We are always ready to have new 'pebbles' rolled, or thrown among us! So welcome. Yona Pusey.

Yona would like to pass on the greetings of the fellowship of her Church to all at St John's.

Can you help?

This year's seniors lunch is being held at the Haydon Centre on Saturday 8th December at 12:30. As in previous years we will be asking for volunteers to help with providing food and transport and also helping out during the lunch. Please put this date in your diary now. More details nearer the time.

Dedication Service on 20th October, 2007

Just 13 days before the momentous Dedication Service. We are expecting about 230 people to the service and the front door will be closed at 4:55 ready for the Bishop, clergy and readers to process. So if you are one of the 230 people coming, do please arrive early. The earlier you arrive the better seat you'll get!

And please don't forget the lists in the church for you to sign up if you need, or can offer, transport for the Service of Dedication or if you wish to offer to be on the exciting bill of entertainment. YOUR CHURCH NEEDS YOU!

Pauline Davis is seeking volunteers to help with washing up after the buffet supper. Please contact her if you are able to help. She will be delighted to hear from you.

Building Project

The Dedication Service marks the completion of the Building Project though we have still not quite completed the furnishing and equipping of the rooms. We still need £2,500 to £3,000 more to complete the project finances. The phials are still coming in - we have received 99 so far containing £668. So keep filling those phials (there are still plenty available in church) and further gifts can be passed to Andrew - cheques payable to St. John's PCC please.

Do you buy on line?

We have received our first commission cheque amounting to more than £50! Log on via our website or go directly to http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church will receive commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.

There are over 100 retailers involved (including M&S, Amazon, John Lewis, Comet) some of which offer exclusive discounts and promotions - and best of all ... there is no extra cost to the purchaser!

Tape Ministry

If you or someone you know would like a recording of the service, please contact Nigel Crowhurst, our Tape Co-ordinator.
