Women's own

Resumes on Firday, 5th October at 10:00am. Future meetings will be on the first Friday of each month and ladies are invited to come and join us. Further details from Wendy Eastwood.

Rovina Evans

Last week we published a message of thanks from Bishop Evans for our prayers and the gift of the cost of Rovina's successful operation. We add our thanks to the couple in St John's who, on hearing the appeal, paid the full cost. Faith in action embraces prayer and a practical and generous response to need. God does the rest!

A reminder of St John's prayer meetings

The above meetings will continue to be held in St John's on Tuesday 25th September and Tuesday, 2nd October at 7:45pm. This week's study will be "Spiritual Weapons for a Spiritual Battle."

Parish administrator

The post involves working in the parish office two days a week, although this may increase. Applicants must have typing, secretarial and administrative skills. E-mail and web skills are also essential. He or she will have a friendly and approachable manner, able to work both with church members and the wider public. For further information please contact Pauline Davis.

St John's giving scheme

Our Treasurer, Andrew, will shortly be preparing and issuing the weekly giving envelopes for 2008. If you are not already in the St. John's Giving Scheme and would like a set of envelopes, please speak to Andrew. He will also be happy to let you have information about giving to God's work at St. John's by Standing Order and Gift Aid.

Building project

Construction workersFirst the need, then the prayer, the planning, followed by the appeal and response, the thanksgiving, the tenders, the despair, more prayer, a further appeal and responses, even greater thanksgiving, growing optimism, groundworks ("doesn't it look small?"), the construction, the completion ("doesn't it look big?"), the decoration, the carpets, the curtains ... and now the furniture!

Do have a look at the vestry/administrator's office this morning and the old vestry. We're almost there! But we are still not quite there on finance...

Gifts towards the cost can be passed to our treasurer, Andrew, with cheques being made payable to St John's PCC. Additionally, you can help by filling phials which can be found in the basket in the church room. Already 91 have been returned containing a total of just over £598!

Dedication of the extension - early replies needed!

This will be on Saturday 20th October 2007. If you haven't already replied to your invitation then please do so as soon as possible so that we can plan and cater for the expected numbers. If you have any queries please speak to Jean Dean or Pauline Davis.

MasksImpresario requires acts

The St John's talent evening has produced some unforgettable memories over the years.

It is not too early to start practicing that piece of thespianism, terpsichory or prestidigitation you've been longing to demonstrate, but just never had the chance.

Mary Smith and the team will be producing a supper following the dedication on 20th October, and after that the fun will begin.

Transport

If you are coming to the Dedication of the extension and would like a lift, would you please sign the list in the church room. If you are able to offer transport to people requiring a lift there is an alternative list for adding your name to that, also in the church room.

Pram club notice and dates

Pram Club will meet at 9:30am - 11:30am and 1:30pm - 3:30pm on 24th September and the 1st & 8th October. On Monday 15th October Harvest Thanksgiving will be at 11:00am - 2:30pm with service at 11:45am followed by a light lunch. Pram Club re-opens as usual on Monday 29th October at 9:30am.
