Retiring offerings for flood victims

Today there is another opportunity to give to the appeals for flood victims both in this country and in Asia. There will be a plate at the door for your donations after each service or you can pass your gift to our treasurer, Andrew, in an envelope marked 'Flood Crisis Appeal'.  Cheques should be made payable to St John's PCC.

Are you new to St John's?

If so, do please stay for a coffee after any 11:00am service so that we can get to know you. For those regulars at St John's there are a number of new faces in the congregation so do please remember to take the time to introduce yourselves to those people that you have not spoken to before.

Prayer board

In the church foyer is a small notice board for you to place any prayer requests and we will endeavour to include them in the prayers during the service. Prayer is one of the many important parts of our Christian lives.

TelephoneCan you pray with us?

Prayer Circles are an important part of our life at St. John's and they are used on a regular basis. If you would like to be part of our praying team, and are on the telephone, please do have a word with Jean Dean and she will be only too happy to explain how the Prayer Circle works. It is very simple and will usually only involve you in one telephone call per request.

AlphaThe Alpha Course

Bob has lead Alpha for a number of years but is not going to be able to do that this year as he is still recovering from his virus. That does not mean that there will be no Alpha. We have run at least one course every year since 1995 - often two - and this year will be no exception. We find that when we put on a course, people - often unexpectedly - turn up to go on it. Read more about Alpha.

Sharon wants you!

Sharon Mortimer is looking for some volunteers to go on the Sidesman's rota for the 11:00am service from September onwards. Please contact her if you can help.

Help! I need 100

Over the past few years the members of St John's have filled about 700 shoe boxes which have been sent to underprivileged children abroad. This year we would like to include, in every box we send, a toy bag that the children can keep long after the shoe box has disintegrated. If you can help make some bags (which are very simple - just two pieces of material approximately 10"x10" stitched round and with a drawstring cord at the top) then please have a word with Jean Dean and she will let you have some material. Please also have a look at the display in the church room as you leave church.

Building project

Construction workersWith the building work complete, we are concentrating on planning the furnishing and equipping of the new extension. We have sufficient money in the fund to pay the builders and the architects with some left over to go towards the cost of furnishings and equipment, but we still need a lot more!

Gifts towards the cost can be passed to our treasurer, Andrew with cheques being made payable to St John's PCC. Additionally, you can help by filling phials which can be found in the basket in the church room. Already 78 have been returned containing a total of just over £543!

Dedication of the extension

You should already have Saturday, 20 October 2007 in your diary for the Dedication of the Extension by Bishop Mike, followed by refreshments and entertainment. The service will start at 5:00pm. The church will be packed for this important occasion and attendance will be by invitation only. All members of St John's will be receiving personal invitations over the next couple of weeks. When you receive yours, please reply as quickly as possible so that we can plan and cater for the expected numbers.

Transport

If you are coming to the Dedication of the extension and would like a lift, would you please sign the list in the church room. If you are able to offer transport to people requiring a lift there is an alternative list for adding your name to that, also in the church room.

Home groups in September

Lots of plans are coming together for homegroups in September.  There will be a new approach as we want to be adventurous in the Autumn and do some new things with prayer.

Do you buy on line?

We have received our first commission cheque amounting to more than £50! Log on via our website or go directly to http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church will receive commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.

Tape Ministry
