Spring Harvest Balance
Those going to Spring Harvest at Minehead, in Easter week as part of the St John's party, are reminded that the balance of the cost should be paid to Andrew by the end of January. Cheques should be made payable to St John's PCC.
How is Pauline Gray getting on?
Many of you will be aware that Pauline has been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. She is not able to work, and finds that the simplest domestic tasks quickly drain her of energy. Visiting or even telephoning can leave someone suffering from this condition feeling quite exhausted.
However, cards and letters are always welcome. We keep praying for Pauline, but it is just as important to let her know that she is in our thoughts and in our prayers. Let's make sure she feels that she is still part of the family, even if she cannot get to church services.
Jars of grace
Keep bringing them back! The total is now £2,039 from 76 jars. All the money raised will be shared between the work in Luweero in Uganda and the UNICEF appeal to benefit children in desperate need in the third world.
If you would still like to give but didn't save in a jar, please put your gift in an envelope marked 'Jar of Grace' and pass it to Andrew. Cheques should be made payable to St John's PCC.
Growth and home group possibilities
As part of Bishop Mike's continuing emphasis on growth, there will be a conference on Saturday, February 10th at St Joseph's Catholic College, Swindon from 9:00am to 1:00pm. The theme will be "Equipped to Grow".
The conference is aimed at home group leaders, PCC members and anyone involved in leadership in any area of the church, including music, children's work and pastoral case. We need you to be involved. Bishop Mike will be giving the keynote address, and the workshops will include (amongst others):
- Equipping people to grow their vision
- Equipping for growth by doing less better
- How to grow a leadership team
- Lifting the lid on shared ministry
- Equipping people to grow through change
- Equipping people to grow through worship
- Equipping small groups to grow in commitment
- What will your church look like in the year 2030?
- Equipping people to build links with schools
- Equipping people to be witnesses in work
- Equipping people to grow in confidence to share their faith
Especially for home group leaders - Jo Vickery, Vicar of Christchurch, Downend in Bristol, will speak on small groups. Some of you will remember the approach to home groups which have been proving effective in Downend. We heard about it on the DVD we were shown on the day the Bishop Mike was unable to come to the house party.
You can see how many of these workshops chime in very much with our own theme, "Living Stones".
Do please sign up as soon as possible on the sheet in the foyer, so that we can get you the workshop of your choice. As soon as you sign up, you will receive full information about all workshops available.
Service of prayer for Christian Unity
Christ the Servant, Abbey Meads are hosting this evening's United service at 6:00pm.
The last couple of services have been encouraging in their demonstration of the willingness of the Christians of this area to come together, worship together and work together to build the kingdom here in Swindon.
James Wilks House
A communion service will be held at the house on Thursday afternoon starting at 2:30pm. All are very welcome to attend.
Can anyone held Jill Lamb?
Jill needs to borrow a small portable tape recorder or a dictaphone. She is studying at Swindon College and needs it for one of the sessions.
