Joe's Ordination

Joe Morris will be ordained in Bristol Cathedral this morning. Members of the church will be there to celebrate the event with him. Those in St John's will no doubt be praying for him. Do please also remember his parents Chuck and Cath who will be living in Ashton Keynes with him.

Children's work over the summer

Thank you very much to those who have signed up to help with our children's work over the summer and give our children's leaders a break. We still have some more places to fill. Do please sign the form in the foyer, so that we can get this organised.

Manage your mind

'Manage Your Mind' book coverRaymond has lent the book "Manage Your Mind" to at least 12 different people in the church over the last two years. Everyone has found it helpful. It deals with a huge variety of issues in a very practical way including:

It is not a book where you start at the beginning and read to the end. The aim is that you dip into it, using the index to find an issue you want to read about. Once you start reading a particular section, you then get referred to other parts of the book which deal with related questions.

The demand has been such that Raymond has actually got no less than four copies of this book. Please feel free to borrow any that are available in the church room, but please let Raymond know that you have borrowed it with an e-mail or a phone call.

If you would like you own copy you can get one from Amazon External link or any local bookshop. It is written by Gillian Butler and Tony Hope. It's not a Christian book as such, but will 'help you to develop skills to lead a more fulfilling and productive life'. It is tried and tested.

Building project

Construction workersWith the building work complete, we are concentrating on planning the furnishing and equipping of the new extension. We have sufficient money in the building fund to pay the builders and architects with some left over to go towards the cost of furnishing and equipment but we still need a lot more!

Gifts can be passed to our treasurer, Andrew, and cheques should be made payable to St John's PCC.

Additionally, you can help by filling phials for furnishings! Just take one of the little phials from the basket in the church room and fill it with your small change. Already 55 have been returned containing a total of £391!

The extension will be dedicated by Bishop Mike, Bishop of Bristol, during a service to be held at 5pm on Saturday 20 October, 2007. After the service of dedication we will celebrate with a buffet meal and entertainment by some of the gifted members of St John's. Definitely an event not to be missed!

Key holders

Construction workersWould all key holders notify Peter Howlett as soon as possible as to what keys and to which door to St John's they are holding. If you believe that you need a key to the new entrance door, you should submit a request for one to Peter in writing stating the reason you require the keys.

How to make friends and get to know people

A group of St John's members will be meeting once again on 15 July in The Dockle Farmhouse for lunch. If you are able to go along after the 11:00 service on that day you will find a very warm welcome and a good meal there.
