Vicar has baby

The Rev Jane Haslam, vicar of Purton, has given birth to her fourth child. Kathryn Haslam was born on 14 May and weighed 7lb 13ozs.

Broken nights for Raymond

As one of the few clergy in the area who do not have an 8:00am communion, Raymond will be covering a number of early morning services in Purton during Jane Haslam's maternity leave. As such, he will be arriving fairly close to the deadline for the 9:00am service over the next few months. So no tut-tutting about not getting up early enough!

Important dates

We have three really important dates for your diary. Martin Cavender is director of Resource (formerly Anglican Renewal Ministries). He has been meeting both with Raymond and with the strategy committee in order to help us with the whole Living Stones project. He will be coming to speak on Sunday, 30 September. This will be just a single sermon, but Martin will then come back for the whole weekend on February 2 and 3. This will be our parish weekend. We have not yet thought of a name for it, but we will soon. These will be very important days for us as a congregation.

The third date is Saturday, 20 October. Bishop Mike will be coming to St John's to dedicate the new building at 6:00pm. After that, we will have a supper followed by our usual entertainment evening. Now you have lots of advance warning and bags of time to practice that Scottish Sword Dance or trampolining act you were dying to show us last time, but chickened out of!

Please make sure you write these dates in your diary, your personal organiser and on your wall calendar!

Spirit 7 - Pentecost 2007

Spirit 7 is being celebrated in the Old Town gardens on May 27. The timetable for the day will look like this:

You are welcome to arrive from 4:00pm and bring a picnic. Car parking will be a challenge, so we are encouraging folk to park in the Old Town car park and to walk along to the Town Gardens.

Fundraising BBQ

Rod and Sharon are holding a BBQ at their house on Saturday, 9 June at 7:00pm. This is to raise funds for the furnishings of the new annex. Tickets are £5.00 each, with 100% of ticket price going to the furnishing fund. Please see Rod or Sharon in church to buy your ticket(s).

Holy Communion

Holy Communion at James Wilks House will a week earlier than normal on Thursday, 24 May at 2:30pm. All are welcome.
