J.A.M. in the Ark preparation meeting
There will be a preparation meeting for all the helpers for J.A.M. in the Ark on Thursday, 19th April at 7:45pm in St John's church.
Renewal of giving
If you have not yet returned your Renewal of Giving Promise Card it's still not too late! It is very important that we get as many promise cards returned as soon as possible to enable us to budget and plan for the year ahead. So, if you have not already done so, please send or deliver your cards to our treasurer, Andrew, as soon as you can.
Street pastors
There is a new initiative by the churches to provide street pastors in Old Town and New Town areas of Swindon. Christians would work alongside police to offer pastoral support in the various situations that arise in the town area on a Friday and Saturday evening. You will hear more about this soon. Please do pray for Paul Rush who is now putting the whole thing together.
Building project
If you have not already contributed towards the cost of the building project,
it is not too late to do so. If you have made a pledge, we
would like these to be converted into gifts by the time the work is completed
if at all possible. It will be particularly helpful if Gift Aided gifts
are made before 5th April (the end of the tax year) so that we can recover
the tax from the Revenue by the end of May. We are also happy for pledges
to be paid by installments (and we understand some installment payments
will continue for many months). Cheques should be made payable to St John's
PCC and passed to our treasurer, Andrew.
When the construction work is completed, we will need furniture, equipment, carpets and curtains. You can help by filling phials for furnishings! Just take one of the phials from the basket in the church room and fill it with your small change. Already ten have been returned containing a total of just over £100!
See the building work in progress...
It takes two
Care for the Family are running an evening in Swindon on Thursday, 19th April for every married couple. If you have been to an event by Care for the Family before then you will know what a high-quality evening this will be. Richard Hardy and Katherine Hill will be taking an honest look at the ups and downs of growing a healthy marriage that matures, deepens and stands the test of time. Fun is guaranteed!
Discover - a new vision of your marriage; how to communicate at a deeper level; how conflict can be creative; practical truths earthed in personal experience; the importance of sex and intimacy and how marriage takes time to mature.
The cost of the evening is £6.00. Please write your name on a postcard and slip in into the envelope in the church room.
Good Friday morning
We normally do a walk on Good Friday, however our plans to do so had to be shelved at short notice this year. Instead, there will be a service for all churches in the area at 10:00am on Good Friday (6th April) at the school at Taw Hill. The service will begin at 10:00am. Hot cross buns will be served at 10:45am and there will be special events for younger children at 11:00am. Please join us to support Swindon's newest church on such an important day for them.
To find Taw Hill school, enter Taw Hill at the top of the road that runs past the District Centre. Turn left at the Tawny Owl pub and follow the signs to the medical centre. You will see a big blue fence and the school is behind that.
Easter
Sunday breakfast
Thanks to Nick Atkins for offering to make breakfast in church this year. He was the only one in the end and that is too much to ask - even of Nick! However, our breakfast does need someone to organise it. If Nick is willing to do it next year, we may well be able to have breakfast in church together then.
Do you buy on line?
We have received our first commission cheque amounting to more than £50! Log on via our website or go directly to http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church will receive commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.

Tape Ministry
If you or someone you know would like a recording of the service, please contact Nigel Crowhurst, our Tape Co-ordinator.
