J.A.M. in the Ark preparation meeting

There will be a preparation meeting for all the helpers for J.A.M. in the Ark on Thursday, 19th April at 7:45pm in St John's church. Help is still needed, so if you can assist on the day please contact Tony Mann or Andrew Carpenter for details or put your name on the list in the church room.

Electoral Roll

ScrollOnly one week remains before the Electoral Roll closes this year. If you wish to be on St John's Electoral Roll you will have to fill in a new form - even if you are on the existing one. If you are new to St John's and wish to join the Electoral Roll now is the time to do so.

Please ensure that Sharon Mortimer has your Electoral Roll form back by Sunday, 1st April or it will be too late to go on the list this year!

Renewal of giving

If you have not yet returned your Renewal of Giving Promise Card it's still not too late! We are planning to announce the result on Sunday, 1st April. It is very important that we get as many promise cards returned as soon as possible to enable us to budget and plan for the year ahead. So, if you have not already done so, please send or deliver your cards this week to our treasurer, Andrew.

Easter flowersEaster flowers

If you would like to contribute to the cost of the flowers used to decorate St John's over Easter, please pass your donation to Andrew Dean by Sunday, 1st April.

If this is to mark a special occasion or is in memory of a loved one, we will note this in the bulletin on Easter day, Sunday 8th April - please let Andrew have a note in writing with your donation.

Building project

Construction workersIf you have not already contributed towards the cost of the building project, it is not too late to do so. If you have made a pledge, we would like these to be converted into gifts by the time the work is completed if at all possible. It will be particularly helpful if Gift Aided gifts are made before 5th April (the end of the tax year) so that we can recover the tax from the Revenue by the end of May. We are also happy for pledges to be paid by installments (and we understand some installment payments will continue for many months). Cheques should be made payable to St John's PCC and passed to our treasurer, Andrew.

When the construction work is completed, we will need furniture, equipment, carpets and curtains. You can help by filling phials for furnishings! Just take one of the phials from the basket in the church room and fill it with your small change. Already ten have been returned containing a total of just over £100!

Annual parochial church meeting

Our annual parochial church meeting will take place this year on Monday, 30th April at 7:30pm in St Johns. This is a very important meeting, not least because Howard Smith, our long-standing church warden will be handing over to his successor at that meeting. Do please make sure that you have this date in your diary. If you are a new or recent member of the church we would love to see you. You do not have to have been in St John's for decades to come to the APCM!

It takes two

Care for the Family are running an evening in Swindon on Thursday, 19th April for every married couple. If you have been to an event by Care for the Family before then you will know what a high-quality evening this will be. Richard Hardy and Katherine Hill will be taking an honest look at the ups and downs of growing a healthy marriage that matures, deepens and stands the test of time. Fun is guaranteed!

Discover - a new vision of your marriage; how to communicate at a deeper level; how conflict can be creative; practical truths earthed in personal experience; the importance of sex and intimacy and how marriage takes time to mature.

The cost of the evening is £6.00. Please write your name on a postcard and slip in into the envelope in the church room.

CrossSonrise service - Easter day

If you are coming to the Sonrise service at Barbury Castle this year, the good news is that you get a lie in! The service begins at 6:00am (last year it was at 5:45am!).

St John's will be there with Emmanuel, Haydon Wick, churches from Wroughton and the Salvation Army. It is a glorious way to begin Easter day - once you have got past the first two minutes! So if you have never seen the sun rise on Easter day, let me encourage you to join us that morning!

BreakfastWhat shall we do about breakfast?

Last year we held separate breakfasts in the homes of various church members. Some people tell me that they preferred that to being together in church. But does everybody? If we are to have a breakfast in church together then it does need someone prepared to organise it.

There are two lists in the church room - the first one asks whether you would like to come to a breakfast in church. The second asks for volunteers prepared to organise it. Please make sure that if you say your would like to come to a breakfast in church that you really are intending to be there. Those organising the breakfast in church will buy food on the basis of that list.

Do you buy on line?

We have received our first commission cheque amounting to more than £50! Log on via our website or go directly to http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church will receive commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.

There are over 100 retailers involved (including M&S, Amazon, John Lewis, Comet) some of which offer exclusive discounts and promotions - and best of all ... there is no extra cost to the purchaser!

Tape Ministry

If you or someone you know would like a recording of the service, please contact Nigel Crowhurst, our Tape Co-ordinator.
