Mothering Sunday - 18th March 11:00am

Our Mothering Sunday service is a great opportunity to invite someone to church for the first time. J.A.M. Spread will be going into three schools the week before to make the service known. Please do your best to support them by inviting any mums, dads and children. Presents of flowers will be given as usual.

Home from home in Malmesbury Abbey

We had a wonderfully warm welcome from the congregation of Malmesbury Abbey when a group from St John's went to visit their 4:00pm service last Sunday afternoon. The service was very similar to ours, right down to the choice of songs and the composition of the music group.

It was a great experience, and we will want to follow that up by visiting other churches. What is the aim? Certainly not simply to slavishly copy things we see in other places, but rather to stimulate our thinking about our own church life and worship.

Set the scene

J.A.M. Spread is looking for craftsmen and women to help set the scene for JAM in the Ark on Saturday 28th April. If you can help please contact Tony Mann or Andrew Carpenter for details or put your name on the list by the entrance.

Renewal of giving

Have you received your renewal of giving brochure for 2007? If not, have a word with Andrew or Raymond. Please pray about your response and then return the promise card in the envelope provided. Promise cards can be returned at any time but we would like to have them all back by Sunday, 25th March so that we can announce the result on Palm Sunday - 1st April. It is very important that we get as many cards returned as possible to enable our treasurer and PCC to budget and plan for the year ahead.

Electoral Roll

This year we have to draw up a new Electoral Roll which means that if you wish to be on St John's Electoral Roll, you will have to fill in a new form (even if you are on the existing one). If you are new to St John's and wish to join the Electoral Roll, now is the time to do so. Forms are available from the table in the church entrance, so please please make sure you do not leave without one. If you have any any queries please contact our Electoral Roll Officer, Sharon Mortimer.

Sorry - what is a book?

For those who prefer modern technology, we will be showing in a week or two a DVD featuring Adrian Plass introducing a brand new interactive personal internet Bible study programme called Foundations 21.

Bite-sized training

The Deanery is offering training in a number of different areas. This is a new initiative. Please take a look at the subjects which are being offered. Details are on the table in the church entrance. You will note that you can contact the person leading the evening directly by letter, phone or email or you can go through Rev Richard Armitage. You can of course just turn up on the night, but it helps those leading to prepare the course properly if they know how many people are coming.

Do you buy on line?

We have received our first commission cheque amounting to more than £50! Log on via our website or go directly to http://www.buy.at/StjohnsHW. The church will receive commission from 2% to 12% on anything you purchase.

There are over 100 retailers involved (including M&S, Amazon, John Lewis, Comet) some of which offer exclusive discounts and promotions - and best of all ... there is no extra cost to the purchaser!

Tape Ministry

If you or someone you know would like a recording of the service, please contact Nigel Crowhurst, our Tape Co-ordinator.
