Our policy on giving
In St. John's we do not simply encourage giving to the church, but giving by the church.
For many years we have had a policy of giving away no less than 10% of our income every year to other organisations, societies or individuals whose work deserves support.
Currently, we support people working in Uganda, Paraguay and Albania.
Here at home, Swindon Foodbank, Swindon Youth for Christ, Swindon Pregnancy Crisis Care and the Willows counselling service receive financial support from us.
This regular giving is supplemented by regular initiatives like the Jar of Grace project.
Every five years we re-examine those organisations and societies to whom we contribute. They occasionally change, but the 10% is non-negotiable.
We recently heard that one of our contacts in Uganda needed a car. By the grace of God, and through the generous response of our members he now has it.
