Alpha
If you don't know much about the Christian faith, but would like to know
more, what can you do?
Fortunately, there is a better way than trying desperately to remember what you learned in those RE lessons in school.
St. John's has been running the Alpha course for about 10 years. Alpha covers all those questions people think they ought to know the answers to, but really aren't quite sure. Questions like:
- Who was Jesus?
- Why did he die?
- How can I be sure I am a Christian?
- How can I learn to pray?
- Why should I read the Bible?
- How can I know what God wants me to do?
On the Alpha course you get plenty of time to think about these questions in the company of other people looking for answers. We always provide an excellent meal beforehand, so that you can talk together in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
We also provide an excellent course leader in Bob Hayward. Bob is not only a member of our congregation with a strong faith of his own, but also runs a company teaching, among other things, the skills of communication. So you will be in good hands.
Even where people don't know each other at all on the first week, we find by the fourth or fifth week that people just don't want to go home at the end of the evening.
